Planting autoflowers?

Is it better to start in small pots and transplant into bigger or plant in 3 gal fabric pot? My first autoflowers.

Autos are best started in their final home, as they can be less tolerant of stress.

Happy growing!

You can use non woven fabric Nursery Bags to transplant. No reason to worry about shock with those.

I start my autos in their forever home, 3 gal fabric planter. Always pre-watered then no water added for at least a week or 2.

I start in solo cups, then to forever homes.

I put Photos and Autos in their forever home. No transplant shock nor stunted growth for up to a week. :+1:

I swing both ways on this. Had great luck either way. It can be daunting using a bigger pot to start because of overwatering and such. Dixie cups can be daunting because of transplant shock. (Transplantt shock is NOT guaranteed)

As far as 3gal fabric pot goes. I use 3.5 gal airpots and 5 gal fabric pots for all my growing. A 5 gallon pot will give you a bigger plant but requires more maintenance during flower. 3 gallons are easier to flush cus you only need 10 gallons water instead of 15 per plant. Its a toss up, each has pitfalls the other doesnt.

I start in 42 mm peat seedling pods then transfer to the final 5 gal fabric pot. I just got some of the nursery bags so I can more easily transplant seedlings without stress.
If you decide to use pods, make sure to pull/cut away the screen before planting in forever home.
Note on the pods – I will generally have roots pop out of the pods within a day to three days – so they don’t live there very long. I get into soil the instant I see any root popping through the screen.

Everyone has their own way of doing things. That’s what makes this forum the best. We feed off each others ideas. I start my seeds in their forever pot. So far so good.

I’m so disgusted with myself. I must have had a bowl or two to many White Widows when I did my full moon plant. I used 3gal pots, all the time thinking they were five. I’m so bummed. My 5 gal pots are giving me plants twice the size (autos) as I got in the 3 gal.

Not my grow but a great example of the potential of even a solo cup.
