Hello guys, im in week 5 flower with my baby Purple Bud, everythings lookin fine and healthy, i defoliated last week and i have a question about pistils, some of them are starting to turn brown or amber, i checked the plant no signs of hermie, could it be because i sprayed her with water 2 weeks ago? Thanks for replying…
Here are some pictures of my work
Auto or photo? If its a photo you still have at least 3 weeks left.
Photo…
I know harvest time is not close yet, but should I be worried about brown pistils or is it because of water i sprayed on them which i found out later i should not be doing
Be patient, pistils will change before everything else, you need to look at the triocomes when they are cloudy then its time to harvest.
Hey @buddz happy growing!
Your buds look awesome, nice grow!
According to @Myfriendis410 the pistils turning brown/amber is due to a Magnesium and Nitrogen deficiency.
Could you provide more information on your plant specs? There’s a support ticket you can fill out. That really helps other help diagnose any issues you may have. I too am in week 5.
I noticed amber/brown on mine as well around week 3. Got insight from people here and now she being fed properly.
Before Feed
After/ Today…still a few, but mostly whites
Brown pistils are normal,( not from sprating water on plant) no need to worry about them. Try to avoide getting water droplets on plant the will cause light burn.
Thanks mate! Could you post a link to that support ticket so i can fill that out…
Yours look sick too!
Thanks guys very helpfull i was starting to get worried!
@buddz Thanks for the complements!!!
Here’s the ticket. Just copy/paste and fill in answers! Goes a long way for help!!

Man, I would not suggest taking any more leaves. That’s not something you want to do until close to harvest. You will seriously affect yields by defoliating at week 4.
Hey @outdoorsforlife are you using a jewelers loupe to get the close ups of the Trichomes?
I’m trying to find something, but I just can’t get anything close enough to that zoom.
I studied a lot of that and people say that you should defoliate around 25th day of flowering and and somewhere around 45th day, but thanks i wont be doing that anymore, its just that my plant was hella bushy and light did not penetrate anywhere but on top
Actually what is done in week 3 is to remove fan leaves. I do this and so do a ton of other growers. This should only be done if you are running HIGH intensity lights too. If you are running blurples it will likely reduce yields. What got done to your plant is more of a ‘lollipop’ than defoliate.
Just offering some friendly advice so you can get the most out of your plants. Brown pistils can be a sign the plant is stressed and needs some time to recover.
@DankBank22 not a loupe I wanted to have pictures.
This is what I use.
There are a few to chose from just depends of your phone. Took some practice to get the hang of but for the money it works great.
Hell yeah thanks man!
I’ll start looking into them, need to grab one quick! Thank you Sir!
No problem.
I have not heard of this before it is good information to have.
I interpreted myfriends diagnosis of deficient Magnesium and Nitrogen to be evidencing itself in early stage of flower resulting in early onset of pistil browning. I do not know if the same diagnosis would be made at 5 weeks or if it is normal maturation process (even if earlier than I would expect)
