Any advice on when and how often to pinch back the branches to create a bushier plant when growing outdoors?
I usually just pinched the top most growth tip after 5 or 6 nodes to make more of a bush rather than the normal christmas tree shape.
I usually start by supercropping at about a foot tall. You pinch the main stem near the top with your fingertips, not your nails as the goal is to just crush the stem wall, not remove the apical bud. You can do this every other node. This tells the plant that the main apex is damaged so start sending out side shoots, but the main apex will recover. At about 2 feet tall I will cut the apex off only if I’m concerned that flower stretch will go too high to give away the grow or I want to clone it. You can supercrop the side shoots to fill out your screen of green. You can train for change of direction by wiring or taping the floppy heads in whatever direction you choose. Plenty of videos on supercropping on the web.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but won’t a bushier plant produce more bud?
Welcome to the community ! Personally I like a bushy plant. Inside grow dealing with limited height it’s almost a much to top or Fim. Outside I have seen some huge plants with being topped only one time. Outside grow I would still shoot for bushy plant not as easy to spot as a Christmas tree.
Happy growing my friend.
Yup. I like em bushy too. Normally try to aim my topping to give me 4-6 evenly spread strong apical colas and a few lowers. More good buds. Less larf
Yes, I’ve always gotten more yield from topped or pinched plants.
