No, my back yard is basically a scrubber. I can smell it on my patio from time to time but nothing overpowering.
I have all this vegetation to get through to reach the neighbors. And I have a FBI agent that lives behind me.
That is beautiful. So much foliage surrounding you. Do you prefer growing outside?
I’m not sure if I like it better or not , this is my first outside grow that I am really trying at . I have tried bag seed in the woods once it was a disaster but I didnt check it for 5 months .
I hope this goes well but I will have a back up indoor grow going as soon as the one in my tent finishes it’s last couple of weeks .
So, I am shopping for everything to grow and the wife suggests starting with a very simple setup to see if I will enjoy it.
How about that? Is there something inexpensive and simpler I can try for my first grow.

LOL, may have been the word “building” that got her. You are getting excellent information from the folks here, but we all go our own path. There are certainly a number of different ways to get there. I keep a spreadsheet of every penny I have spent whether its for equipment (tent, lights, fan, pH meter, etc) or supplies (Seed, soil, nutes, etc).
Looking back, i got the exact same advice as you are getting (lol, probably from some of the very same knowledgeable, helpful people). It has been a year now and i have quite an investment in my new hobby. From here, I see where I have spent money twice (sometimes 3 times) to get to where folks suggested that i start. In some cases this has still worked out ok since i am KEEPING this hobby.
For example, the crappy cheap lights I started with work just fine in my 2nd tent (starting and seedling stage) even though i had to replace them during my first grow. Same goes for several of my original purchases. I can see that although I have a reasonable need for that stuff now, back when I was “starting cheap” it was money I really didn’t need to spend at that time.
Fortunately, my wife is very supportive (i grow for her) and over the course of the year i have learned enough from the folks here that based on what she was paying this experiment has definitely more than paid for itself.
No matter which path you choose, welcome to the forum! so begins the journey. A year from now it may all seem sooooo much clearer.

I really love the idea of an indoor garden alone. When we were in Colorado I was amazed how helpful the weed was for my wife’s migraines. But we live in Texas and I don’t see legal happening here soon. So having an indoor garden to grow meds is fantastic.

@Yussef66 it’s many options , you even buy whole kits, but the lights are not the greatest options in the kits . But to simplify everything else basic , will be in the kit . Ac infinity fans works best with they tents 
in my opinion . The older models you could mitch match you inline for in and out air flow , with ac models it was not the same adjustments in temp and humidity control with a T6 and a S4 , I’ll still need to add the S6 in flower to have more airflow for hotter Temps with more light power . But it’s all kinds of stealth boxes , it’s one you can control the whole grow from your phone with experts feeding regiments. They from your country , I cannot recall the name but if you Google different types of stealth grow boxes for Marijuana you’ll find all sorts of options and it’s just a matter of wallet size . Now if you are a rookie , do what’s best in your own self confidence and research . I’ll advise you now , if you happen to not know what all items you’ll think you need, try not to ask to many folks are you will spend more than necessary ok, it’s facts , many are beginners and only knows what works for them pocket wise , so try to get advice from a guy who has some time and experience under his belt so you not out of pocket cause he will save you money in areas he over spent on makes sense ! Don’t ask me or I’ll have you growing 5000 plants with a bath and body works candle lmao , this has to be your experience that’s where your confidence starts at when you know you have a bad ass light , so my next suggestion is the most important if you want your grows to be simple , easy , and nice premium bud to smoke , don’t try to save pennies on your light choice ! Are you will spend again on lights ! Plus good lights saves money and growing headaches cause your plants can only eat as much you feed them base off how much light power they have to transfer food into they photosynthesis process . Weak lights , weak plants , 300 watt = 3-4 ounces dry , 1000 can be 6-8 ounces dry up to over 2 to 3 pounds with time learning the plants growing phases. So again picking a light that will give good quality is like buy a car 
? You have a Prius to a Benz to a Rolls Royce in lights and you get what you pay for in the Light selection . Now it’s ways to save and again many who have made this mistake will know best . But you real confidence starts with your lights , everything else is a matter of choice and nothing beats pure sunlight for great quality period. I think this is going to be confusing for a new grower. Weak lighting is not good, but a small light is fine if you concentrate the photons on a small area.
Absolutely a great point. starting off, i think that was one of my more difficult decisions. how big did i want my grow space to be. being new, i didnt even know how to formulate a response to that. if i knew that i would be pulling over 1/2 LB from two small plants and how often i could do that, i think my answer would have been “big enough for 2 plants, what would you recommend”.
Keystone nailed of the best “starting questions” imo, Can you describe the space you’re thinking about growing in?" Kinda sets the tone to start thinking in that direction (i.e. size of available space) and can then lead into the environmental aspect. At some point logistics even may come into it (remember you have to drag water to the plants on a regular basis

It’s not just water though. In my experience, the temperature and humidity are the most expensive part of a grow if you have to fight the environment. I’m trying to get to 82F/40% RH in a garage in the Northeast; not at all ideal but it’s what I have available. So in winter, 85% of electricity inputs go to heat (still only about 500kWH per cycle, so not the end of the world).
40% RH? That’s a tough one in South Texas.
Exactly. i should have added to that statement “remember, if it is not already conditioned space, YOU will need to condition it”.
Like you said, that could be the most difficult part. we see folks here that have “lots of space” in their unheated attic. that can be a nightmare for both heating and cooling
I would buy a couple thermometer/humidity meters that log data. I use GoVee. Then I’d start collecting data from your closet, attic, and any other space you might grow in or pull air from.

One thing I will recommend is start a Grow Journal of your journey. So you don’t need to memorize and it will also help us diagnose any problems you will and or may encounter.

And yes, go Photo. They are more forgiving for a first time grower. I am an anomaly when it comes to growing.

calendar with big enough squares I can wrote notes in on each day .
