Outdoor pot size and type

Hi all,

Getting ready for the season and thinking about what to plant in. I’m probably going to grow two autos and one photo in organic super soil. I’ll be growing on my paver patio. My questions are:

I have 2 of these. Website says they hold 5 gallons, but based on the measurement it’s probably more like 6. Big enough for the autos?

For the photo, I was thinking about buying a 20 gallon or 30 gallon grow bag. I don’t necessarily want to grow a tree. Will try to keep it under 5 ft if possible. Would these be a good size? Will they be ok on a patio?

Are the grow bags really better, and will I be able to move a 20-30 gallon bag (I’m a big guy) around when needed?

Thanks!

That would be huge to move around. Plus weight of wet soil. How may cu ft or gallons would a 30 gal bag hold? Wowza. The grow bags are great imo.

Actual based on this calculator those grey plastic pots hold 7 gallons. Not sure why the website says 20 quarts/5 gallons.

Ha! Yeah I was thinking it might be a little too big. Found a website that said 4 cubic feet for a 30 gallon and 2.7 cubic feet for a 20 gallon. 30 gallon might be a pain to move if I need to.

5 gallon pot will work for autos but for a photo @oldmarine can help you on pot size

Why not plant directly in the ground?

1.5 cubic feet is pretty standard bag of soil size, that fills 10 gallons

Check out geopots, they are well made, awesome folks full of info. Don’t go any less than 30s, but 45 would be better.

I don’t really have a good spot to plant in the ground and I like to be able to move them around. I get some pretty nasty weather where I live - crazy rain, wind and humidity - and sometimes I’ll put them up against the house or in the garage when it gets really bad.

My 2 cents on the plastic container is that shape is unstable in the wind. They are fine for low growing flowers or crawling vines, but a tall cannabis plant will fall over in even mild wind.

Great that you are able to do that. Definitely check out GeoPots, they are really good.
