I will be growing outside in southeast Virginia. I was looking for advise and tips from people who have done it before. I got 5 gal fabric pots and ocean forest and happy frog soil. I growing 2 gelato auto flower and blue dream photo. I’m new to this and any advice would be helpful! Stuff like, when should I start my grow? ( temp still getting into the low 40s here at night.) plant in the ground or use pots? Let the plants get rained on? Just anything knowledge you have to make this easier would be amazing thank you!
You can start now I believe, I am in NC and I personally would use the pots you have instead of the ground
But I’m newish as well, this is my second year growing
I let my plants get rained on last year with no problems but I heard it’s not good
Dig up the dirt under your bags and put composted steer manure, Gypsum and other amendments in it. Adjust pH. Cut an x across bottom of the bag so roots can grow into ground. Bury the bag 4 inches deep. Sprinkle cayanne pepper and mothballs around area. Camo the bags. Beware of thieves.
I have the Cali cut of Blue Dream not sure what the ILGM purple thing called BD is but actual blue dream gets powdery mildew and bud rot bad. Mix a spray of 9 parts water one part milk and spray weekly. Spider mites love it too.
@Poepoe3 What up King George!! Nice to be growing legal ain’t it lol!! I’m right across the Nicely Bridge so we experience a lot of the same weather patterns. By that I mean it seems every summer we get drowned in rain lol. Welcome!!
@Poepoe3 Ok lot’s to think about, at least here in Michigan,
Rain is ok up to flower time, it’s not good for large colas, also if you have high humidity, not good. This is why I grow in a greenhouse, on cold humid nights I close it up and run a dehumidifier. Growing in pots give you the opertunity to flush in the end of flower, better tasting. The Gelato should be good to go, but blue dream must be watched as mentioned above. May want to pick another strain for 1st run. Good luck.
i’m also on southeast va. 757
i’d wait on your photoperiod plants until june/july. they won’t ripen until oct/november and there’s just no need to veg for that long outside. you’ll deal with every single bug.
start the autos now. i have one outside and will move three more outside on thursday after the cold
spell. honestly i dealt with a lot of issues last year during my grow so please feel free to tag me for any questions.
Thank you guys for all the advice! Lots to think about. I will definitely be starting the autos soon and the photos around June. So excited to get to growing! Thank you all!
