Newbie Seeking Nutrient Guidance

Fellow Growers,

Per my subject line, I’m a total newbie embarking upon my inaugural grow and could use some advice regarding nutrients.

First, I’m growing in soil and selected White Widow Autoflower and Gold Leaf Autoflower. My soil is FoxFarm Ocean Forest, and I’m growing indoors. My seedlings are off to a smart start — the leaves have a deep, rich green/blue hue, and they appear healthy and happy.

It’s still early, but I’m trying to prepare for applying nutes at the appropriate time. Here is where the questions begin. First, what are the benefits of powder vs. liquid nute options? Second, what brand(s) should I consider? I’m strongly considering Bergman’s Fertilizer Pack because I want to support this site, and it appears to be a simple solution for my first foray into growing.

Any experience/advice with Bergman’s? The soil feeding schedule looks straightforward, but I am unsure about one thing — the weeks. I assume that WEEK 1 in each growth stage refers to that growth stage and not the overall timeline. Am I correct about that?

Thank you in advance for any input more experienced growers are able to provide.

The most popular powder nutrients here in the forum is definitely Jacks. I’ve never used it and I’ve also never used the Bergman fertilizers.

I use and suggest Advanced Nutrients. It’s a bit over priced, but worth it in my opinion based on the results and ease of use.

You shouldn’t need anything for a few weeks yet, so there’s plenty of time to get lots of options and consider all your options.

I suggest Jacks it mixes the same everytime no matter what stage the plant is in. I grow in coco so I use it from seed to harvest.

I use Sohum cannabis soil and just switched to Gaia dry fertilizers (All-purpose for veg, Bloom for flower) with great results. I’ve never used Jack’s but heard nothing but good things.
Also ive never tried liquid ferts, it just doesn’t sound right unless your going hydroponic route.
Either way Going with the “Living Soil” is the only way to go in my book!
Happy growing and remember

Thanks, @Jerdan03 , much appreciated!

Is this what you use?

I use these two organic nutrients and follow gaia green feed schedule

Have use gaia green no different in results price for these two is little cheaper.

@danniep40 THANK YOU! Gaia is a recurring theme. I need to check it out!

Dry nutes are normally cheaper, started a yr ago on jacks321 in coco, and very happy.

100s of styles to grow great bud. Correct ingredients are good light and quality genetics., the rest is tlc and patience.

Welcome aboard.

You are in good company with Jack’s, and you’ll have lots of help here, if you need it, and it’s very cost effective. I’ve never used it, but it would be my first go-to if I didn’t really like the Grow Dots that I use on my autoflowers.

I first started off with a kit that was a bit pricey, so in comparison, the Grow Dots are super inexpensive to me. Plus, they are super easy – mix them in soil before transplanting, and then only water the entire grow, with once a week-ish adding Recharge microbes. I use RO water, so I add a tad of calmag. No fuss, no PHing, no mixing.

Congrats on your upcoming first grow! :grinning: :+1:
