Newbie ?, keeping cooler temp in grow tent during flowering

Hello all, have an idea and want to see if viable. Thanks to all who may advise. This relates to flowering stage still 3 weeks away.

Have a 2x4 indoor tent in a walk in closet. The closet does not have ac vent, and stays quite warm. I want to avoid a full fledge AC with ducting in the closet, so am considering the following:

  1. A portable swamp cooler to cool down the closet.
  2. A portable dehumidifier inside tent to keep humidity low.

Could this work? Other suggestions would be appreciated. Still 3 weeks from flipping to 12/12. Veg stage going great, want to be prepared for flowering stage.
Best Regards,
Tom

A dehumidifier will put out quite a bit of heat.

I’d suggest taking the tent out of the closet and improving airflow to manage temps.

I was thinking the same thing. A dehumidifier in the grow room is essential here in the summer and my temps run mid 80’s because of the dehumidifier

I grow out of my closet, and have a portable AC. It sets in the room the closet is in, and I exhaust/drain it through the window. I don’t have to run any vent hose or anything to the closet, just face it in that direction and it does fine.

May I ask where you are running the exhaust from your fan/filter?

Exausts straight into closet but with an added carbon filter outside tent. I like the idea of port ac in next room. Closet runs 80 f and just need to get it down to some. Thanks

80F isn’t too high. If you are concerned, then good airflow will mitigate it. More airflow is always a good idea. It manages temps, replenishes CO2, and mitigates mold and mildew.

Airflow is definitely more important than temps, with good airflow leaves can “sweat” better and cool themselves down. From what I’ve heard, leaf temps are about 5 degrees cooler than air temps. If you need to cool things down you may be able to use a cold humidifier around your air intake so long as your humidity is low to start with. Also with dropping to a 12/12 there will be a larger temperature delta (gap between high and low) as your lights are on less often producing heat for a shorter amount of time over the day.

As for any solutions… sad to say I don’t have any. Hopefully the information I provided can at least change your train of thought and get it onto a better track.

Gl gromie!

Got it, it’s about the air flow, and although I have a tent in a walk-in closet, I am getting good air flow so will focus on that and ensuring air moves through closet. Thank you!!

Boy, seems airflow is a demon where I live. Humidity big time.

I would just set a fan up in the tent and see how that goes. I am not happy till I see temps around 84 in my tents. They seem to like that best. I have seen temps in the low 100s before. Not good but no issues. A swamp cooler may add to the humidity if you can’t vent it away. As long as you have good air flow in the tent. Humidity should not hurt you. Just direct a small fan towards any plants that have heavy buds.

Truly appreciate this advice. Thank you.
