New with two survivors

First I want to say hello and thanks to those of you that have been kind enough to take your valuable time to help a grower that has been waiting on this day since someone stole five 5ft tall indica plants from Hawaiian seed that had outgrown the 5gal buckets we had hauled all over my grandfathers forty acre farm in the summer of 1982. We transplanted them in early June right before the Tennessee Hwy Patrol drug task force had gotten word that we had a “major” growing operation on my grandfathers farm. Luckily we heard about it before they could land their Huehy in the alfalfa field next to our house spread out on the farm messing stuff up out of frustration, and in the pouring rain at 2:00am dug them up and put them back in the same buckets and took them down to a creek bank where we had kept them for the previous two months. By noon the next day they were gone. I found out later that POS that ratted is out was the same one that stole them, and what’s worse, he cut them that day and didn’t even let them mature and flower. So to say I’m a motivated grower is an understatement.
The Polaroid photo is from a Sativa plant from 1987 that is the only other plant I’ve ever had to bud.

These two seedling are under my 100 watt HLG nursery light for 18/6, but I’ve been setting them in the widow sill on the west side of my house in the afternoons to get some air. It’s 69 today but they’re calling for a high of 48 and a chance of snow flurries in northern Illinois tomorrow so that ends any chance of getting spoiled by spring like weather.
But the reason I’m posting this today is to get an opinion on when or whether to transplant them into 2 gallon pots or wait until they’re ready to go outside in about four weeks (hopefully) and put them in the containers that they’ll live the rest of their
lives in. Either 3 or 5 gallon fabric containers.

At any rate the larger of the two was from an 8th of White 99 dispensary flower that was 36% thc. The shorter one is 2 weeks younger than it’s buddy which is dispensary flower as well, but I’m not sure what it is.

I’m tagging these folks below simply because the first thread I saw was the Bud Porn thread, and they had some pretty impressive results, but anyone that can provide feedback is certainly appreciated.

So to review:

  1. When to transplant and what size containers?
  2. These will go out side in about a month, and I know SCROGing is more of an indoor method, but regardless of whether I SCROG, when does one TOP or FIM during VEG?

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks again !!

Love this Polaroid! Welcome back to growing

Thanks for your kind words!

Outside? Inside? You currently will need a lot more light if indoor. Window glass attenuates light so not the best place for them FYI. I would also lower light a bit to reduce stretching.

I transplant into (soilless) media at about 2 weeks. Autos should go right into their final home. If you have room use 5 gallon and a cannabis optimized soil and you should be fine.

I’m sorry, I probably wasn’t clear because these will go outside in a month, just waiting on the weather.

One question I do have is, they are on 18/6, when do I start to sync that up with our sunrise/sunset schedule?

I’d maybe throw it back at you and see where, in your lat/long. your day cycle coincides and shoot for that. Really need to have 10 hours of direct sunlight (shade or partial shade depending) to stay in veg. That’s not daylight but sunlight.

I think it’s cool! When your grow ‘day’ is around 14 hours I think you could sync it with a 10 hour of direct sunlight point (or close) and you’ll be good. Watch for light pollution too and another thing if not sure you have enough daylight for veg: hang a light over the plant/plants and run it at midnight for 30 minutes. This will trick the plant into thinking it’s a longer day and remain in veg.

This also means that a streetlight might keep it in veg. Plan accordingly.

I think you’re good with info above. I wouldn’t transplant yet though. When leaf diameter hangs outside of cup rim I typically transplant.

That’s an interesting metric.

Thanks!

I don’t know it’s that interesting lol. I’ve kept them plenty longer, but I don’t see the need to transplant any earlier than that.

Maybe it’s not, I guess being the new guy I was nervous and felt compelled to say something, even if it was wrong.

All good, we were all the new guy at some point. I was just sharing a good baseline method.

If you folks would indulge the new
guy.

  1. Is the plant on the left displaying what I’ve heard called “canoeing?”
If so, is that from being too close to the light source?

(upload://7dFXqXuXnVgIpAKj3HoSNfpKNqz.jpeg) !

  1. I’ve got a typical fluorescent desk bulb that says
3000k on it, would it be ok for germination? If so, how far away should a new seedling be when it first pops up?

  2. When can I put the young seedlings under the 100 watt LED?

  3. This Radix product was included in the package when HLG sent me the LED. Is it used like Myco?
    How does one use it?
