What type of soil can you folks recomnend for a newish grower? I’ll be growing autos from CKS outdoors in 5 gallon smart pots and I’m not sure where to begin with soil. I read contradicting statements on Miracle Gro soil and that Fox Farms is possibly too hot for autos so I could really use some direction from some seasoned vets here if possible. I want the simplest, hassle free grow method available to make the most of my effort. If it helps any, the following strains are what I have to start with; White Widow, Northern Light and Jack Herer. Looking forward to learning!

FFOF would be a good way to go because you won’t have to provide the plants with any nutrients for 4-6 weeks. :v::bear:

I’m using potting soil from a local hardware store. They are doing great so far.

I second the Fox Farm Ocean forest.

I have read that FFOF is possibly too hot for autos, especially when they are seedlings. Any truth to that?

Any of you try outdoors in coco coir?

There’s always that chance because every plant is different, but most plants I’ve seen can handle FFOF

I use promix hp from most hardware or garden stores. .its about $30 canadian and fills 12 x 5gallon pots, then i just use minimal nutes for my autos i love it! All my grows have been excellent! Good luck with everything

I would think you’ll do ok in the ocean forest too. I figure with more than a couple plants you’ll be buying more than 1 bag for 5 gallon pots, so you could fill bottom half of pots with something like ocean forest and top half with something like happy frog. I would expect you wouldn’t have too many issues doing that.

That’s actually what I’m planning to do on my next transplant. :+1:

It’s too many nutes at one time they need different things at different times. A seedling needs very little the round leaves u see first are the food in the first week or so then they need different nutes for veg then they need different nutes for flower. Not necessarily different but more or Less of each. @MattyBear @dbrn32 @Covertgrower can explain better I’m going with what they and many others have taught me. I’m a newbie only my second grow. Best of luck on your grow :v::sunglasses::call_me_hand:

“Hot” as @Dman1969 stated is too nutrient rich and causes the plant to “burn”. Hence why it’s called hot.
