@Budbrother is one, I’ll have to go check a few members journals before I could tag more. Maybe @Budbrother has a few to recommend as well?

During flower I like to add seabird guano.
You have calcium deficiency. It’s probably hungry from the lights. Add some gypsum or oyster flour (not crushed oyster shell). Do not use limestone as it will raise that pH up way higher.
What you’re using is treated as soil. I used it only once, but I ran it at 6.3-6.7 without issue.
NLS - is a good mix with autos. Member, Smokngranny, ran it for years. Make sure to keep up with the calcium and add Epson for magnesium.
I see that you’re talking about using it for tea brews. I have no experience there and neither did she ![]()

From reading this, I my $.02 wold be that’s a lot of molasses, and I’d be using 1 tsp - 1/2 tbs max. Also I would brew the tea to keep the microbes flush with oxygen. Stirring and shaking don’t accomplish this very well. I’d brew it for 36-48 hrs minimal. Organic dry amendments used to make SS concentrates, for the most part, don’t break down in 2-8 hours. They need to be consumed by the microbes first. Even then, that’s a small amount. Don’t add the molasses until after the first 24 hrs. You want the microbes eating the organics and breeding, and not gorging on the sugars.
Seabird guano, depending on the brand, will give you 0-11-0 +20(Ca) and provide you more nutrition when entering flowering. It also give you the Ca boost that you’ll need. It can be added to your tea brew above. It’s loaded with beneficial to help break it down and would add value immensely to your tea.
Sorry, I’ve never used that soil and don’t know how to measure EC/PPM, and have no runoff. I never get deficiencies anymore growing autos in the organic bag soil I use with SIPs. I am water-only seed to harvest.
The last run I had before switching to SIPs I did have issues but believe it was because my tap water pH is ~8+…and I’ve been roughly ph’ing it roughly to the mid 6s with drops and have not had an issue in numerous runs since…sorry it’s not actionable feedback.
Thank you so much. What’s sips? I have calmag and hydroguard. Can I use those?
I will dilute my tea down. I went easy on the molasses.
Thanks Bud brother. You helped me in the past. I got 2 pounds out of 5 plants in a 4x2 tent. Doing Coco though. I’m still smoking it from 4 months ago.
“never get deficiencies anymore growing autos in the organic bag soil I use with SIPs”
Which Sips do you suggest?
SIP - sub irrigated planter
Lookup Earthbox
Edit:
Calmag - not organic but yes.
Hydroguard could be used for the bacteria, I suppose.
Ok cool, I already mixed up everything. I really hope it’s not too strong. The plants were looking so good.
Hey bro, they are looking a helluva lot better this morning.
I couldn’t do exactly what you said but it was enough with what I had.
Go with what ya got
works just fine. If you’re not hung up on 100% organics, then continue to use it up. Waste not want not and all that.
Sometimes that’s my only choice money wise… ![]()
Hey quick question.
My ppm is 420
My solution is 3 gallons of weak compost tea
Calimagic 1-0-0 1ml per liter
And hydroguard
So the 420 ppm is the calmag and hydroguard?
You’d have to know the starting PPM of the water and the tea to subtract and figure out the PPM of that other stuff. Although, PPMs doesn’t really apply to teas and organics
So technically. I could use my hydroponic nutes for soil.
It would kill all the beneficial microbes though?
Maybe some of my nutes are soil friendly?
With that medium, you couldn’t use salts successfully.
Salts do kill off microbes, but considering the multitude in 1 tsp of soil, it’s never gonna kill them all off.
Using salts with all those concentrated amendments would lead to disaster and lockouts due to excess. A lil calmag doesn’t hurt if used occasionally.
Edit: You should get some gypsum.
I would say your capacity and needs at harvest would dictate…there are countless DIY ones you can watch video examples of online, but in terms of commercial I believe GroBuckets work with 5 gallon buckets and hold maybe 3.5-4g of soil, and supposedly EarthBox originals hold 3 gallons of water and 2 cubic feet (60 dry quarts) of growing media. The EarthBox Juniors are 23" L x 9.5" W x 7.25" H and hold just over 1 gallon of water and 1 cubic foot of growing media.
I currently grow in GBs and have only ever used decent organic bag soil, and grown water-only autos, but I do aerate the water res 24/7 from day one to keep it from stagnating the first couple weeks before the roots hit the reservoir, fwiw. I also don’t know what ppm are or have anything to measure it.
I will look into it for sure. Thanks for the input.
I’m just trying to figure out how I can grow in soil and meet the individual plants needs at the same time.
I don’t know how ‘water only’ works…
Hey with the system you have is there any problems with algae blooms?
You’re welcome, happy to help.
As it has worked to feed humanity for millennia to grow food…seeds in organic soil with water and light ![]()
I use an aerator 24/7 from day 1 to avoid that and the water/roots are clean at harvest (they also drink a ton during veg and flower):
Here’s a thread I had on this forum from last year that may help for perspective:
