This is my first grow. Black jack autoflower in 5 gallon dwc. I believe I’m about 4 weeks into flower, hoping somebody could confirm or deny that. Also was thinking the buds look a bit lean. Thanks for any help!
Sorry, I need experienced opinions***
Looks like a calcium deficiency. I grow autos in a hydro system. What nutrients are you using and what kind of medium are you growing in?
I’m using advanced nutrients ph perfect micro grow and bloom with a few additives. Growing in hydroton
I’d say thats a far guess just from the pictures ![]()
Are both pictures the same plant or 2 different ones ![]()
The first looks like it’s takeing up some extra Nitrogen and the 2nd one looks like maybe it’s struggling a little bit to take up calcium ![]()
What’s your ph running and reservoir temps?
Both are the same plant. I struggled figuring out light height and now I’m paying for it with a plant that’s too tall and a light that can’t get any higher. The first picture is from the top of the plant, the second one is midway down the plant. Ph is right around 6.6 and reservoir is warm about 75 however I am using hydroguard
Should I purchase a cal-mag additive or is it too late? On top of the base nutrients, I’ve been adding b-52, bud candy, and big bud since start of flower
If this is one plant then it’s not calcium deficiency, calcium is dark green on bottom and the yellowing with brown spots thats in the middle would be uptop on newer growth.
I’m not a fan of the “ph perfect” technology.
I just can’t wrap my brain around it but people do use it with success.
I don’t know how to approach any nutrient deficiency with the “ph perfect” nutrients.
If you get a calcium supplement to add, unless it’s also “ph perfect” I don’t know how that would work
.
Temps in reservoir need to be 65-70 much higher roots struggle getting oxygen and can cause nutrient uptake problems. You can freeze water bottles and put them in your reservoir to cool it down. I would start their first
I’m almost certain the spots on the second picture are due to being too close to the lights, however I will be purchasing the hlg 200 rspec in the morning time and hopefully won’t run into anymore light issues. The only cal mag I see by advanced nutrients is part of the sensi line and I’m like you, not sure how that would work. I do plan on switching to either jacks or Athena for my new whack at it
That’s good to know. I was under the impression that hydroguard is supposed to help when higher res temps are an issue
I’ve not seen anything about hydro guard other than it helps from getting root rot. I don’t use it so I’m not familiar. I ask my friend who is a hydroponic dealer who grows 40 plants at a time. Must be nice! He told me since my water temperature was good and my ph at 60 I don’t need it. I’m no expert like a lot of these growers on here are. So I would get a few more opinions and and options.
Hydroguard is beneficial bacteria. It will help fight off bad bacteria that will grow in warm water. So yes it will help protect your grow in warmer conditions but your plants will still typically do better in ideal conditions.
6.6ph is high for a hydroponic grow. Im not sure what is typical buffering point for the ph perfect stuff but you wouldn’t be the only one to experience problems with it.
How long since you did a res change?
It’s been maybe 9 days. I was doing them every week on the dot but as the plant got taller it got more difficult to change 5gal bucket. After snapping the main cola, (luckily it recovered somewhat;maybe that’s why it has brown spot all over it) I have tried to only add rather than completely change res.
Anybody have suggestions on a simpler nutrient line?
You run your dwc at a pH of 6? I have a good family friend who’s been into hydroponics since before my time and his suggestion was keeping it around 7. Now he’s also using different nutrients and flood and drain system, but ALWAYS has quality yields
Yes my system is ebb and flow. I have a 55 gal drum of water and nutrients Ph at 6-6.2 I change my water every 7 days 10 at max. I’ve heard of people who top off but I installed a couple valves and a 15’ drain hose that I roll out and pump out my remaining water. After all 8 plants drink about 35 gallons a week. I understand about plant’s getting in the way it does hinder things. Here is a picture of my first and only hydroponic grow with ph at 6. It’s super skunk. I just harvested and it’s in the curing process now. I can’t wait until my next adventure. Happy growing and good luck with your decisions. Oh I forgot I use green planet nutes
Nice plant! Thanks for all the help. I’m gonna check out that line now
I’m going to suggest Jack’s (Peters) nutrient line. There are a LOT of growers using it, including me.
Part A, Part B, Epsom salt and silica is all you need. Grows great cannabis. Typically i will yield around 12 oz. per plant
I have been looking at jacks because I’ve heard it’s basic and good, however when I start looking at their products, It can be intimidating. Do you use the feEd line?
