Need opinions on LED lights for soon to be new grow set up

My next grow set up will be a 10x10 tent. I’m wanting to use LED lights in it and not mh/hps for entire grow cycle seed to harvest. I was thinking 4 2k watt LEDs or even 4 3k watt LEDs. I have been told you can get higher yields than 1k hps/mh light but with the right set up and cost efficient. What are some good LEDs for full cycle of plant and higher yields? I’m also thinking 12 plants in 10 gal pots in 10x10 tent.

That’s a big space I would guess some hlg 550s or 320s . Db is gonna give you an exact answer.

A 10x10! That’s a whole lot of area to cover!

If I can fit 3 plants in my 3x3, that means you can fit… a lot.

@dbrn32 is the lighting guy. I’m sure he’ll mention HLG. I have an HLG light in my 3x3. Plants love it.

Horticulture Lighting Group has very fair and comparable prices.

Also, for a 10x10 grow, I must insist that you start a grow journal. I’d love to follow along.

Do you know what strains you’re planting?

Regardless of size…your gonna want around 40 to 45 watts/sq ft. So in a 10x10 your shooting for around 4000 true watts. Going the DIY route on an area that big will save you several hundred dollars versus buying a plug and play light. HLG is known for their quantum boards but with large areas, I think a DIY linear strip build would best suit the room. Take a look into Cutter, Digikey, Pacific Light Concepts for DIY strips.

The Samsung F series strips, Bridgelux strips are a couple of strips that would work well. The spectrum for all around seed to harvest should be around 3500k. If you plan on separating areas then you could go 4000k for veg and 3k for flower.

@imSICKkid will the HLG save on power bill? For the DIY strips I would need 4 of them and will they be alot better than led plug and play yield wise? In your opinion would it be better to get the veg cycle DIY strip and one for flowering or use full cycle one? @NeoGroR I haven’t fully decided yet honestly. I’m thinking Blue Gelatos and OG Gelatos. I have 4 Blue Gelatos growing under my 2k led light. I have a grow journal on those ones and another grow journal for my GDPs and NL autos. You should check them out. Are you using the full cycle one or one for veg and other flower?

I’m using the 260 V2 RSpec kit for the whole grow. Just a little undersized for my 3x3, but I figure I’ll throw my old Burple in the tent when I switch to flower in a couple weeks.

Im gonna track down your grow journal.

Keep in mind that chinese led lights you see on Amazon use BS marketing and lies, there are no 2000 or 3000 watt LED grow lights.

It’s going to be very expensive to properly light up a 10x10 with good LED lights. I’m talking 3-5 thousand dollars, do you have the budget for that?

@Hellraiser Not that much yet to spend on LEDs like that lol I’m wanting to do DIY linear led strips now. My led light I have right now isn’t the best if I can get 4000 true watts from DIY lights I’ll for sure do that. If I did the DIY lights will it cost 3k to 5k to do? Or is that just for the plug in play?

3-5K for plug and play or even HLG kits. Going DIY would save you some money for sure.

I am trying to find some right now but kinda don’t know what to look for :joy: kinda new to LEDs lol I don’t know which would be better getting 3500k for seed to harvest or 4k for veg and 3k for flower? I’m wanting to get a little more wattage than 4 1k hps/mh where I can get enough sq feet for plants. @Hellraiser

If you’re only going to have the 1 growing space, would be more cost effective to go with lights that can take you from seed to harvest. Let’s get the led light guru involved to help you with DIY options @dbrn32.

So both wouldn’t be a difference in yield? I’ll most defenitly go the cheaper route. I don’t mind setting up both set of lights. @Hellraiser

Im wanting to know how much led strips and how much wattage I would need to go a little above what 4 1k hps/mh lights do. When you said 1 growing space does that mean 1 plant in other words? @Hellraiser

There’s a shop in Parma Ohio that has the best prices on HLG. The Indoor Gardener. Google him. His website sucks, but give him a call. He’ll save you hundreds of dollars. $749 for the 550 RSpec

Growing space, talking about using the whole 10x10 tent as 1 big grow room where you would veg plants first and then flower them in the same space. If you did it that way, only need 1 set of lights from seed to harvest. No real difference in yield between using a veg spectrum first and then switching to a flowering spectrum or using a a good seed to harvest spectrum for the whole grow.

You’re going to be looking at four fixtures that still cost roughly $600 each to build. That is pretty much starting point, could easily spend more.

@NeoGroR I’ll check them out. @Hellraiser That’s what I’m going to do is 1 big grow room. @dbrn32 how much true wattage will they have if I spent 600$ each for 4 of them? Is this 600$ for seed to harvest LED or one for veg and other for flower?
