Grow mates. I just jarred my first CBD Autoflower grow. I yielded six and a half 32 ounce jars and a small amount of trim. I don’t have a scale but my best guess is that I harvested about +200 grams of flower.
I’m concerned that I may have over dried the buds, as the RH measures in the low 50’s. But then again they were in their jars for about 1 hour. Not sure if the RH will increase?
So, I’d appreciate some direction in how to safely in crease the RH. Also what my target RH should be. I fully intent to burp 2x’s a day for the 1st week, the adjust accordingly. My lung room maintains the ambient temperature at around 69F. The jars in in a dark place.
I have an OG Kush that is about 2 weeks away from harvest. My goal is to learn as much as I can with CBD so I make the same mistakes with when I dry and cure the Kush.
P.S. Ignore the blue calibration tags in the RH meters. The calibration process I used was incorrect. I later figured out that the meters were within 1 -2 % RH on all. I was just too rushed to remove the tags.
If your buds are crispy put a small orange peel in the jar and remove in the morning that will get your buds back where they need to be. Then I would get some bodeva packs for each jar.
leave them in the jar unopened overnight and check them in the morning. my stash is always a little crunchy going in the jar, but after a day or so the moisture works its way from the center of the buds back out. The better you can nail the dry, the less you have to burp.
Additionally, or alternatively, you can add your exhale breaths to the jar
and reseal for a day, with RH device inside.
Boveda make 62% packs for One-ounce jars.
I currently have two stuffed in a half-gallon jar with some 45% buds removed from a thrift store $6.00 gallon jug (w. poor spout). Worked great for six months and then I don’t know. Pictures not available, yet.
I like the 1/2 and 1lb cure bags. The 1/4 one not so much have had 2 seals mess up. I like jars but my last grow took up a lot of space with quart jars.
I run 50-55% humidity at 64-67 degrees. In the dark for 8-12 days. you know its ready to jar when the branches crackle but don’t break completely in half when folded. the last 2 harvests I didn’t even have to burp after drying. also I don’t trim till its dry to help slow the drying.
I have had some “conditioned” (four 1-ounce packs sitting in a jar for four months, all 62%RH, still). 62%RH is my dry target, but 55-58 burns better. So I target 63-55% or correct.
@Noob3
As @plumbdand, said, “clip off some leaves and put them in the jars”.
is my preferred method of correcting.
Last night, I put 62% Boveda packs in 6 jars and leaves in the trim jar and one jar that was half full. I’m starting to wonder if the #4 size Boveda packs are too small for the 32 ounce jars.
The Boveda pack jars rose slightly to 51%
The leaf jars rose to 63% .
I just burped all for about 15 minutes. . Put one leaf in each Boveda jar in effort to raise the RH closer to 60%. I’ll check again this evening. Temps are steady at 67F to 69F
I don’t use boveda packs. A leaf or 2 or a well wrung damp paper towel usually works great. Just remember to pull them out before mold develops. I’m a little old school. I dry and cure by feel and smell. I also had mentors standing next to me to teach me though, so I definitely understand the need for extra tools without that in person guidance. I would highly recommend paying close attention to the smells and textures as well as your hygrometer. These are all great indicators of what to do next. If your interested I would be happy to share more.
I ordered size #8 last night. I currently have #4 packs which are smaller.
Nice Burping device! I guess it works well. I’m sticking to manual mode. I’ve spent more than I expected setting up. Hope the Kush harvest will offset the initial investment. LOL.
