My second grow and I'm doing it the right way haha

I’m not amazed @Warkat you’ve put a lot of work into your soil and it shows…

Thanks so much. I do have to say tho that this is not work lol. It’s the most fun I’ve had, possibly, in my entire life. Love your soil it will love you back.

It definitely does. It’s a noticeable difference everytime.!! You are absolutely killing it! … I really need to be working on my soil so my next beans start in it. You inspire me everytime I look at them. I was just looking at nutes and this makes me rethink what I’m doing!! Bravo sir!

The best part about it is once made this soil is forever top dressing here a tea there and that’s it. It’s just a no brainer to me. Most of all for me is the understanding of just how complex and integrated life really is. It’s facinating

I also started on the BioChar phase of this journey. Its getting interesting too here are a couple pics on day 2 of adding my tea to it. Made it real wet and im telling ya the worms loved it real active in it. Ive made several improvements to it since ill post that later if anyone is interested

The 2 pots on top have just some reg soil and food i use in my worm bins in them. I figure its a spots worms can go if biochar gets wierd haha

You might want to consider getting 45 gallon pots or some setup that will get more plants in larger soil profile. I think there is a synergy between the plants and insects … lol anyway so by having them in the same soil would be more like outside.

Just a thought for a pot

Ive actually been considering making 3 raised bed boxes that fill the tent or better yet take the room I have the tent in and making it my garden and using the tent for mothers and veg stage. It’s a good sized room with good floor drainage so it feasible. I totally agree with as much living soil area as possible for the grow. We shall see just like life let’s evolve with time.

Just ordered 4 of the books you shared back at post 28 and 31. Gotta get this show started I’ve procrastinated long enough. Takes 4/6 weeks for your soil to cook? I’m sure it’s hot most of that time? Did you buy most of your super soil ingredients online?

I did @Oldtimer69 I’m lazy so got most everything from Amazon. The longer you can cook it the better. I want you to know the plants in flower now are being grown with @garrigan62 soil mix the bottom third of my pots have his better mix in them. I just decided I wanted to add alot more biological matter to it and that’s all I’ve done add worms and good teas and you can see the results.

Today I’m going to show what’s cooking in my Biochar bin. It might get fun there too. Be an hour before the room wakes up tho.
Smoke it if ya grew it.

And where did you get that mix recipe from? And your teas from? I took a screenshot of the 2 you posted on here.

Garrigan"s soil recipe there is soil recipe and the teas I’m using are from True Living Organics book Garrigan has tea mixes too. That are amazing.

And for my base soil mix I used 2/3 FFOF and 1/3 worm castings from my bins. The one thing I didn’t do with Garrigans super soil mix was add enough perelite and vermiculite to it to have same consistency as my base soil. So it’s layered on me and the bottom section of the pots stay alot wetter than the rest of the pots. Just something to consider when making the mix.

And you do it that way on purpose?

No that was a mistake I made I would prefer same consistency through out the pots. When I had those 3 plants hermie on me I discovered a 2" totally dry area in the middle of the pots and it was because I basically inserted the moisture meter into pots to fast. Top and bottom moist so don’t need to water. Could have created big problems. So now I know to pay closer attention to all layers of soil.

Ok so back to my madness with the BioChar I’ve told you the ingredients I used to make the tea to inoculate it. Now I’ll show you what I’ve done in the last couple days. Basically I added about a 3" layer of compost from my outdoor garden that I’ve had indoors cookin in a tub for about 3 months now. I added around 100 worms to the mix also. Now I’m cooking that mixture in the same bin as my compost cooks in. What I did was put my seedling heating pad on top of the compost bin soil then set the biochar bin on top of that. The biochar bin is not touching the heat mat tho. I have it set at 70 degrees to start. I want to see how the worms react before I heat it any more. And it seems to be cooking alot hotter than 70. I have also added about a gallon of the foodscraps I use to feed the worms to the mix. I also have put 2 more pots on top of the biochar mix that just have FFOF soil and worm food in them in case the char gets weird for the worms while cooking. I figure that gives em an escape route if they need it. I’m going to cook this for around a month then add it to my new soil that’s cooking now. Am I crazy or do ya think this might be a good thing?
