Hello all, new member and new grower. From when I first decided to grow I always came to this site for help, caught myself reading forums everyday and decided what the heck, I may as well make some new friends and get expert advice.
This is my first grow, decided to keep it small and feel my way out before I jumped into something that I wasn’t prepared for.
I’m growing 2 white widow feminized. I put them in dirt the 24th of July after 3 days of germinating. The soil I use is 1/2 cheap potting soil from the store and half out of my compost pile. I have 4 1400 Watt LED that I put them under. I get all my nutrients from organic forms. I’m not going to lie I don’t have any of the nice PH readers or any type of device to measure anything. I added some nitrogen to the water I water them with and transplanted them yesterday. I switched to 12/12 on Sept 12th. I live in a remote area so when I’m home on the weekends and it’s a nice day outside I set them out in the sun. I’ve noticed that the upper leaves are turning a slight yellow color. Also I’ve thought about LST or topping them and everyone has a different way or opinion about it. Is it to late to top? What would cause my plants to turn yellow from the top up?
Thank you in advance! I
Smart move. Many new growers start out overly ambitious and often grow too many plants, chasing problems the entire time. It’s like herding cats (not that herding two cats is easy, just a tad easier ).
From your photos it doesn’t look like the new growth on your plants is really that yellow. More like a lighter green than the older leaves, which is normal. I’d stay the course and observe without any attempt at corrective measures at this time. Unless, of course, the newer leaves really start heading toward yellow. If that happens, post another image and possibly fill out a support ticket.
Ah, okay, that plant does look a little anemic (providing a closer view helps). There’s also some uneven coloration in some of the lower leaves. See how your plants respond to the added nitrogen in the coming days.
Edit: Was the first photo taken after the second photo? If so, it looks like the addition of nitrogen is helping.
Yes the first photo was taken after the second. It looks to betting better. I didn’t get a chance to take a good look this morning when I turned the lights on before heading to work. I’m going to see if the nitrogen helps. I’ve also got some natural potassium I’m going to feed them on the next watering
I use LST instead of topping. But topping them is an option. If you’re going to LST them I’d do so soon before they get much taller and while the main stem is still sufficiently pliable.
Topping will take a little longer for your plants to recover compared to LST, but not substantially so (actually, there really is no LST recovery time, it just seems that way). Keep documenting your grow with images, and – highly recommended – a grow journal. Note taking doesn’t have to be elaborate, just relevant enough to be useful when you review your notes for the future. I say this because at some point down the line you’re going to ask yourself, “What did I do when I encountered this ____ issue the last time?” Then you’ll flip through your notes from previous grows and know.
@Countryboyjvd1971 thank you. @BIGE good deal man, let’s just say the area of AR I live in has more national forest than crop fields, and the temps are a little cooler if you catch my drift lol
@ARGrower welcome to the forum My suggestion on your yellowing is due to PH buy a cheap meter it will reduce the amount of headache she will have throughout your grow even a cheap five or $10 meter from Walmart is better than nothing
@Hogmaster thank you and thank you for the advice. I plan on some more grows and before that happens I’m going to get a few essentials. I bought 5 seeds. I grew 3 (the on the first night of flowering something got in my room and tore one up and killed it) so I’ve still got 2 seeds. I figured I would start small and make sure I can grow the dog gone things first before I jumped head over heels. I’ve always had a nice garden and grew tomatoes and what not but this is a little bit more thorough. It’s a blast though, I’m not done with this grow and already planning my next one
Also @Hogmaster I would like to say thank you for the support and advice, as well as @howill. I don’t really have anyone to talk to about growing so to be able to pick your brain a little here and there is extremely helpful.
gotcha,i’m in the middle…lol
this is a great place to learn @ARGrower ,friendly folks just trying to grow their own meds mostly…
everyone happy to give solid information…helps cut out a lot of the bs that is out there…
