Humboldt just dropped another set of triploid seeds. Was really interested in these when I ordered last time but they were sold out for months and finally pulled the trigger on their regular seeds instead. I’ve loved their genetics so far though and already stoked to get the California Octane Triploid going. Obviously still a few months out but ordered just in case they sell out again.
I ended up springing for a couple 5 packs of those California Octane Triploids as well. I have 1-2x4 tent just about finished, and another 2x4 2 weeks into flower, so 2 Granny Candys in one, and 2 California Octanes in the other.
Nice! Man all their strains just sound tasty. I almost grabbed a few more but couldn’t decide and was anxious they’d instantly sell out of the Triploid. I’ve been waiting like 6+ months for more to drop from them.
Besides the Jelly Donutz, Granny Candy and California Octane, I still have Guzzlerz, Vanilla Frosting, Royal Highness and a few different Pheno freebees.
Those were all up on the list. I was eyeing chicken and waffles and the moon one too though. Also considering a Chocolope run and a few of the strains from DNA genetics and the extreme GSC from ILGM. Too many to decide and not enough space to grow.
I’ll probably run 2 of the Triploid next run then try and clone mother those. Then do the raspberry parfait and the pheno seeds or clones from my favorite of the current girls. Then maybe a clone run or two before more seeds. Still trying to convince the wife how profitable this is for us.
I was really excited for the triploids when they dropped but heard a lot of bad reviews on them herming in normal conditions. Plus theyre more than the regular fem seeds. Hopefully these ones are more stable? I didnt even see the drop so gonna go look now
Interested to hear how the Granny Candies turn out! I’m growing 3 rn and are all very tightly stacked, short and almost square bushes
Yeah I think maybe the Donutz Triploid specifically was pretty unstable for what they charge per seed at least. I read some people with great results too on them though. I think the other might of had less issues with stability. Maybe vice versa, but both those runs have been out of stock forever and I think future runs would vary pretty drastically based on their limited breeding potential. Either way cool science and I’ll bite plus it sounds like a tasty potent strain based on the mother.
I’ll be running them by themselves to avoid difference in growth speed because I read Triploid can grow slower in general. Apparently they shouldn’t be able to produce seeds so seems pretty low risk if one herms with the rest being seedless. Maybe I should run 4 instead and keep them smaller though and limit the loss that way too. Always fun to experitent.
Topped Indie today. She’s got a different structure than I’m use to, less bush more air strip. Jane is still playing catch up but popped a trifoliate node. So you smoke some, you toke some I reckon. Three’s my soul number though so special place in my heart for trifoliate. She’s showing great development compared to just a few weeks back and I think she’ll be about a week out from the other girls on topping. Will use the training time to hopefully even them out a little before stretch. The watering still hasn’t kicked on since the initial soak. I only gave each about a gallon and a half. Pretty crazy to think I would have normally watered at least a couple times by now normally. Bigger is better for these girls I guess and they seem to be loving the beds.
Jane started filling out her 6th node which is when I like to top, but her height still wasn’t quiet there. So decided fuck it middle of the night new training style pop quiz. Tried my hand at Fimming. May have gone a little too far…? Let me know if I should just finish off topping her at this point.
Trained the Jelly Donutz. Was almost a little late even though it’s only been a week since topping. Really thick stems and stalks already. Cracked one branch ever so slightly and threw a little garden tape around it to keep out moisture. Overall though training went really well and they’re shaping up nicely.
Girls both took to the training well and nodes were all pointing up at lights on. Also saw some new growth on Jane. I think maybe I went too low on the farthest limb but looks like I might get 3 additional limbs? Not sure still but I think that’s what I’m seeing from the growth in the photo.
Did my first real defoliation and second topping. Below photos of pre and post defoliation.
I was topping the top 2 nodes branches based on the method I was following, but these girls really sprouted legs. I also feel like the tie downs are great until buds get weight and then they’re floppy. Going to try just clips and topping based on individual height instead of initial node placement. Then do a huge tomatoes cage around the base to support under the limbs. Let’s see how much yield I can lose by being hard headed.
First update on that, left the clips on a few days too long for this watering method and soil. Hera broke one of her own limbs nearly clean off in the clip. They were even the gentler kind but she’s a super beefy girl. I shoved her back together and tied her off with gardening tape. Kind of went into emergency mode and forgot to grab pics, but it was holding on by a literal thread somehow. Really need to get some garden honey for that stuff.
I just did aloe with the last feeding over the weekend and Gaia’s little split healed up better than I’ve ever seen. It’s really interesting seeing the difference in plant responsiveness.
Also Jane is growing like she might be stoned. She split a trifoliate main stem instead of side node and is growing what looks like 2 main stems. I think maybe they’re fighting for control or something too because her node growth has become somewhat erratic. Almost like the second main stem restarted it’s node development again from bottom up. Plants are cool.
I’ll try to get some better photos of what Jane is doing when I pull clones. I left the first node on the lowest branches of Hera and Indie to pull. They needed maybe a few more days and I was already behind late into the night trimming with the remodel work we’ve been doing around the house.
Plants look great growmie like them bins there in
Thanks! They make them in all size of fabric pots and beds with a special lining to help spread and hold in water better. The company is grassroots fabric pots.
Expensive for what they are. When I got my 65 gal pots and saw it was just a tarp sewn around the inside but not bottom; I was like I know how to use a sewing machine.
I made a pillow once in a past life but I don’t think that counts. Cool to know you could just add this though. Mine all came with some kind of white wicking fabric on the inside, not really sure what it is.
I got a bunch of the 30 gal ones for berries, but I bought them through buildasoil at the 50% price. Still not really cheap, but they do seem to help keep in the moisture though. I’ve barely watered and it just sat around 30 percent.
Granted I bought mine 5 yrs ago, but it was nothing more than what they make feed, etc. bags with or a cheap tarp.
It basically just to hold moisture in around the side of the fabric pots. I started saving bags to make up smaller pots and do a couple beds.
Nice! I’m just starting to homestead but we’ve been considering sheep and the wife is definitely getting horses again at some point. So I’m sure we’ll have plenty of those soon. I love reuse hacks.
Somehow I left a significant gap in my stem repair. Caught it yesterday, but the branch is pretty heavily withered at this point. Thinking I caught it too late initially too which didn’t help. Should I take the branch to save the tree? Or is there still a chance this branch could recover?
Other than that the girls are super happy. Even with a broken limb and 4 toppings a few days ago Hera is growing like nothing really happened. Hitting their veg stride now and growing way faster. Thinking I might flip on 4/20, otherwise I have to wait another month to not be harvesting/drying over the missus birthday week. She’s a traveler, so we’ll be somewhere that week I’m sure. Going to pull clones and do one more LST tonight in prep.
