What cultivator are you working for. I know someone in Illinois that just spent Thousands of dollars to just submit an application for 5000 square feet of grow space.
Thanks for the advice! I think youre right. Im used to growung indicas and forget this sativa is going to stretch. So it would be more so to support weight than trying to pull tops down again?
Unfortunately I’ve lived in Iillinois since 82 minus time in the Army. Decatur and Bloomington, now I’m west of Joliet stones throw from I-80. It can get nasty humid here. I want an outdoor grow this year but I need to find the strains that can handle the humidity rain heat whatever the weather decides that day. Preferably a sativa although I need to be discreet. GG#4 seems to be a good harry one.
Yes its quite expensive here to cultivate on a large scale. I work for a small cultivation center in western Illinois named Nature’s Grace & Wellness.
I moved here in 09 my freshman year of high school from SC. I bet i drive close by you every weekend i take I 80 south
80 is East and West.
Have you heard of Morris? West of Joliet and East of Starved Rock/La Salle Peru. That’s where I am.
I’ve talked to our head grow operator a lot about the Illinois climate. He firmly believes and I agree with him now, that is impossible to cultivate flower for consumption in an outdoor environment in Illinois. Atleast on a large scale. The climate is just so drastic.
Yeah its messed up here. Sometimes a lot of rain sometimes droughts. Recently it rained so much a lot of the farmers couldn’t even plant.
I go E on I80 to champagne Charleston then south i believe
Yes I know that story Father and Son and his sons friend both his son and friend are lawyers and they are all rich ! ![]()
I’ve successfully grown cannabis outdoors in Illinois prior to its legalization. Not on a massive scale, but a few plants in the backyard every year for over a decade. It is not impossible nor even difficult (grows like weed). Almost every backyard you visit will have a garden and tomatoes growing. Growing Tomatoes is very similar to cannabis.
Over 500 Illinois commercial farmers successfully grew hemp in 2019 and it was a sh*t year in terms of weather and crops. Farmers have been trying to get it approved for most of my life. The hemp farmers of Illinois learning on the fly also recorded less than ideal crops, but it’s worth noting it’s new to them and Illinois also had near record humidity and rainfall In 2019. 2019 precipitation total stood at 41.69 inches, the 25th wettest on record.
I wouldn’t believe the naysayers on this (opinion). Is Illinois the best climate large scale outdoor cannabis growing? No, not by any stretch of the imagination. We have 4-6 months of winter… Is it impossible to grow a field of cannabis In Illinois, no… I’ve seen it.
So you know I’m local, the best fishing in the area for us is the Mazionia wildlife area in and around Braidwood/Gardner area. Grew up around Oak Lawn, work in Warrenville, live just south of Joliet.
Check your frost dates, choose seeds/strains designed for northern climates and start them inside - simple. Here is 2020’s almanac
Oh its for sure possible! We grow around 8000 during the season. Its just unable to be maintained at that large a scale and because of the climate all goes to extraction in most cases.
All of what i said what from my works perspective. You could definitely grow outdoors here on your own. Have a couple buddies who do.
After I harvest the 3 I have going now I’m going to start 2 more inside and one outside. If the outside grow fails I’ll still have more than enough.
The outdoor grow is just to see if I can do it.
Outdoors is such a pain-in-the-ass, I’m happier in a concrete bunker keeping that mother of all bitches out (mother nature).
I hear you. Being able to control the environment cant get any better. I guess I like the thrill of saying f you to the Illinois governor and his circus act. I can’t grow at the house I share with her and her 2 high school daughters. I co-op with a co-worker and it’s all at his house. Decreases the risk of getting popped, and he lives alone so why not. I trust him not to take any of mine and I only have to go over twice a week to feed and check on them. He takes care of them when I’m not there. So back to where I was going I want to be able to see my plant every day. If the girls see it it’s hemp for the cbd her mom likes. Edibles for bad headaches. She doesn’t smoke.
Just ordered my Green Crack seeds. I’ll be tagging you in to follow. Also ordered Acapulco Gold. Old school like my Maui.
I gotta grow AG man… if you do a journal tag me plz.
1981 smoked my first joint I was 14. That next year I smoked AG, MW, Panama Red, Thai stick, Jamaican, and of course unnamed Sensimilla.
I lived in Coronado, Ca across the bay from San Diego. No I am going back to my youth by growing Old School strains and today’s favs.
Next grow Durban Poison, Green Crack, AG and 4th undecided. Maybe another SD. I love buying seeds.
LoL … You and half the site… not me I don’t have that bad a seed addiction!!
