I have a full spectrum led light but i have no way of dialing the light down besides raising it. Are there any dimmers for grow lights because i cant find none i also want my exhaust fan an filter outside the tent so il have more room for my grow any tips
Yes you can get them on Amazon for cheap. You plug your light into the dimmer and the dimmers cord into the wall and adjust it by the knob.
Everything on Amazon was saying for string light’s i dont even know what a string light is lbs. If possible can u show me an example
String lights are those long corded lights with 20-30 light bulbs on them.
I would think these dimmers would work as well. Also get some more opinions I’m not a light expert. I’ve seen people use dimmers on lights that don’t have them
You can plug anything into these and slow them down such as a fan, and they will dim your light. The control knob is a potentiometer it controls the current flowing. What is a potentiometer used for?

A potentiometer is used as a voltage divider or variable resistor in a circuit. Some applications include dimmer switches for lights, brightness controls in televisions, and faders in audio equipment.
Make sure that you have a digital ballast. If you’re ballast is magnetic you cannot use a dimmer
The picture I sent is inside the picture item @Lostgirl sent. Some people have them in their homes to dim the lights in the living room
In them cases the pot controls small current to processing that then amplifies an input. Only surgery would allow this in a DC light driver.
AC supply dimmer won’t work because the driver tries to keep constant volt or current to LED (ex. 90VDC) despite fluctuations in input. My wall is 117v, I seen 107v and 125v. And being a DC device the transistors and diodes need the right levels to function.
It will require surgery because you need to dim the DC output side of the driver, ie, the wires from the driver to the LEDs, I dont know even thatd work.
Unless the unit has features I dont know of.
But I need backup @dbrn32 am I spreading misinformation or can you simply reduce line voltage to a driver or do we need to know all about the driver
Interesting. I didn’t know this. I know that I have this dimmer I got for my booster fans. It works ok with them. But will not work for my viparspectra lights.

Yes I have 2 of the exact same fan dimmers. Works well with fans.
You actually have a Vipor spectra with no dimmer?
I have the Vipor spectra KS5000 and it’s an amazing light I paid almost $700 for it weeks after it came out. I saw it yesterday on Amazon for $460 with $100 off coupon. Makes you want to throw up.
Also I’m surprised this guy aboves APQ1200 light did not come with a dimmer. What’s wrong with these manufacturers.
Yea i may not by a light until i know a nice sale is coming may even wait 4 black Friday the is actually good i cant move it on up anymore lbs
I paid almost $700 for this light and it was worth every single penny. At $369 now it is a steal !!!
The ballast for this light is like 3 ft long and the cord is like 20 ft. I hung it from the wall outside the tent. It creates no heat.
This thing will flower anything you can fit in a 4x4 tent with ease
I apologize if I’ve given some false information here. I would never intentionally do that. I just know what works for me and my back ground use to be in electronics. It has been awhile an technology has changed over the years for sure.
Oh by the way super nice light for that kind of money I may buy a couple just to have on hand
Youre right about the pots I knew you know electronics by the sounds of it. Just theyd be very tricky to install, you or I might find a way around it.
My vipars were all bought in 2018. Now all mine are HLG. The last 260 I got has an external dimmer on it. I like it better with them built into the ballast my self. There are now a lot of great lights out there. I loved the vipars. They just cover to small of an area if you want to grow more than a few plants. It took 3 lights to cover my big bud auto I did in my first grow. A 600, 450 and 300. Now I think I am addicted to growing ![]()
Im addicted to an not even done with my first run lbs
What apq?
@Mrperfect im. Sorry not following what your asking
Nope, you’re pretty much correct. If this is a “dimmable driver” in question than it is as simple as wiring a pot into dimming circuit. But if the light didn’t come with dimmer, chances are it’s not.
It’s unsafe and detrimental to equipment to install resistance dimmers in applications that aren’t specifically designed for them. In the case of non-dimmable led drivers, the pots won’t dim in a linear fashion and depending on where installed can/will cause an undervoltage situation. On the ac side will cause drivers to pull high current until they get so low the driver turns off or the excess current burns pot circuit open. On the dc side will do the same but leds will typically flash on and off once lower than operating voltage, and most potentiometers aren’t rated for typical power loading. When talking about fans they will usually slow fans, but they also draw more current, can make undesirable noise, and cause premature bearing failures.
