Hey all…
I just finally got into cloning. Ive got a few that made the switch and im ready to get some mothers set aside. They are allset up. As the mothers get bigger what size should i make the pot?? 3 or 5 gal to restrict growth or 7.5 or 10 gal to let her stretch her legs a bit? I will only be taking 2 or 3 clones at a time from them so no need for a bunch of bushes.
I’ve kept my mothers in 5 gals up to a couple years, I do like to change out the soil after a year and trim up the roots a bit. With mothers, don’t want too much nitrogen/nutes to keep their growth rate down. I also like plastic pots over fabric, less wet/dry cycles, slower growth. Just want slow sustained growth for long term mothers, don’t want too strong of lighting either as that also promotes fast growth.

I don’t have space for a mother, my last grow I took just picked 4 nice arms from the bottom of the plant and took them while doing my pre flip defol. Interested in this as I’m trying to shorten the in between time. Any advice welcome.
I kept mine in 1,2, or 3 gallon pots, whichever I had around at the time. If it started to become a problem in smaller pot I could always pot up, but then took up too much room. Usually opted to start new mother plant with a cutting.
Im starting mine from cuttings as well. Im not trying to keep from buying seed as much as i want a reliable bud pipeline.
I’ve been keeping a strain going for years because I didn’t know you could order seeds until recently. Keeping a mother plant was too much work, I just took cuttings from one generation to the next. I would take cuttings just before flowering and by the time the flowering was over the next generation was ready to move to flowering room. Don’t know if it was the “best” way, but it certainly worked for me.
