Due to shorter grow times what is ideal month to plant. outdoors in 2 gallon containers so i can move out of rain after bud growth. Thanks

What kind of plants are you intending to grow. Specifically Autoflowers or Photoperiods?
Growing a Photoperiod plant outside in a 2gal container will be an adventure. You could probably wait till summer for that.

@Spiney_norman not auto so the other one lol. Please explain your āadventureā comment. Iāve much to learn and running out of time. Wouldnāt summer be too late? june july ish? As Sarg Shultz saidā¦āI know nothing!!!ā Iāve been growing in 2 gallons for 3 4 yrs. Last yr sucked everthing went wrong. usually get 3 5 ozās dried per. Just havenāt figured out the quality thing. Two gallon pots outdoors are too small.
I live in Arizona I start my plants indoors in April and transplant them outside at the end of May beginning of June.

The ideal time to start plants will vary by your geographical location. Look into this some and you should find your answer. As long as plants are mature at solstice they should start transition around same time of year regardless of strain, minus a few exceptions. From there is where youāll see differences in genetic flowering times.

@dbrn32 Iām Austin tx area. Is it too early to plant indica? Opinion please. Also I have lower end android phone so magnify app isnāt strong. recommendation please. thanks

@plumbdand works in azā¦not in rainy summer centex. killed many an indica plant. 2 gallon planters easier to manage the 6 or 8 times i have to move them high up under porch with fan blowing on them. felony in tex-ass
Perhaps we can tag a Texas grower with some experience.

Wait for someone with experience growing outdoors in your area to respond. In my location i canāt really have outdoor plants until around mothers day.

Iām in DFW area but grow indoors. I do grow veggies and stuff outside, I popped seeds last week for veggies. I agree that later summer is way too hot. I would do some research and see the best time. I do agree that 2 gal pots are way small for outdoor grows. I use 3 and 5 gal on indoor grows. Be safe man, like you said Texas doesnāt mess around when it comes to growing.

My comment about waiting till summer was just an off hand remark based on the thought of growing outside in a 2 Gallon container. I just looked at hours of daylight and frost dates in the Dallas area.
Last frost is around Mid March. Return of 12 hrs of daylight is Mid September.
So letting a plant grow in vegetation mode in a 2 Gallon pot for 6 months just seems difficult. If you just let it veg for 5 or 6 weeks before it flowers you could actually plant it around August 1st. Then 6 weeks later it starts flowering. More like an indoor grow.
That said I dont grow cannabis outside myself so maybe keeping a plant in a small container going for a long time outdoors is no big deal. I did grow tomatoes in 3 gallon pots last year and they were stunted and small. Still got tomatoes but not very many.
So my thoughts are not really worth much.

You dont need 12 hours of daylight/ darkness to flower once it gets around 14 hours of daylight if theyāre mature enough they will start to flower

Iām in far west Texas, I donāt grow outdoors anymore but did for many years. I usually started them inside at beginning of June and put them outside near the end of June, they will start flowering in late August and be done in October. If I put them out any earlier, they would get too big and be hard to hide.
I also camouflaged the plants - theyāre just pepper plants, nothing illegal going on here LOL

My first outdoor grow in central texas was around 1977 and many more since then. Pretty much the last date of a freeze is 3/15 so any time after that works. That said have a way to protect them during a storm or cold weather if in the ground. In pots itās easier to move them inside during those times. In those days seeds were plentiful, with todayās cost I would not start them in the ground but, move them once bigger.
Outdoor in the ground those plants can get huge so that may be a concern. My biggest was 11ā out near Lake Travis but, blew over in Sept. storm. Friend on east side of Austin grew some to 15ā.
Now Iām south of there but, still in central texas hill country and grow in my garden with all the veggies. Usually start in June and no later than first of July. That keeps plants down to 6ā or less so easier to blend in and hide. Iām out in the boonies with no neighbors within sight so i donāt worry too much about human eyes. Other humans are your biggest concern, always keep that in mind growing outdoors.
This year Iām experimenting with auto flowers. 4 of the 5 seeds I got are now growing, two in smaller peat pots in my shed with lights, 2 on back porch in big pots.
The reason Iāve started already is plants donāt produce much thc when itās too hot. Plus I want these to finish in June when we have the longest days. Photos will start when these are done.
In Texas growing hemp is legal now. If you have trouble with the LE make them prove the plants are not hemp which is a costly endeavor for them. Small time grower it may not be worth it for them to put you on trial especially if you live in a poor county like myself. Donāt hire a lawyer either, representing yourself mucks up their works.

Every indica Iāve grown in ground gets bud rot and dies. every single time. tight buds hold moisture and rot starts at stem so by the time you see it itās too late. thats why containers and 2 gallon cause lighter and take less space. i move them in the house for big storms and up on a table under back porch. if they get just a little rain i put them in front bedroom under ceiling fan for several hrs. they grow just fine in 2 gallonā¦last yr had early bad luck so small crop finished. the best plant had about 5 oz cleaned. not bad. i have 12 2 gallon for this yr. 60 ozās-not bad. I was just curious about maximizing and not sure the best time to start. they mature way before croptober. i let 1 go till november last yrā¦sticky and skunkie went away but still a strong taste and great high. thanks yāall. think Iāll wait till end of march.
