So I went to water today and about 1/3rd of the top of the soil was covered in a white, wispy/cottony-looking substance. I went into somewhat of a panic and cleared it out before getting a picture. Nothing on the plant herself, thankfully.
I know without pictures it is harder to say, but has anyone else ran into a similar situation, is it something to worry about and if so what steps are recommended?
I haven’t experienced mold before (knock on wood) but with out pics could you please answer these questions and the master growers of this community will help you out.
Answer these simple questions the best you can. If you aew not sure, just bring it to oue attention. We will figure it out.

My planned budget was about $1k for everything including space set-up(first grow). I estimate I’ve spent around 800 so far. Unless it’s something absurd I’m willing to do what I can to make this, my first grow successful.
Maybe this is a mistake, but I mix new every feeding. Let the water stand for a day or so and it gets near room temp, maybe low 60’s Fahrenheit.
Went looking online, this is a fair representation of what it looked like; the people where I found this picture suggested it could be the result of little airflow/light at the soil level, which yeah, the canopy is full and covers the entirety of the tent’s perimeter.
@TheRook How often are u watering and feeding? Ur soil is staying wet and the added humidity from the humidifier I’m sure isn’t helping. The humidity is very low in my apartment too when I have the heat on and it stays at 30%, I set the humidifier up outside the tent near one of the windows at the bottom of the tent and use a fan to blow it inside of the tent when it’s time to hang and slow dry the bud. I’ve never had any mold or pests before but soil that’s constantly wet will produce some mold and gnats. Do u have any fans going inside the tent? Any pictures of ur setup? That would be a big help honestly in being able to give u more info on what’s going on
I agree with @JiggaMan1987, if the soil is constantly wet, mold could grow, what kind if pots are you using? do you hair any fans blowing? Its not a mistake to premix your nutes. I premix mine and put them in the tent with the ladies.
She’s def a big girl. Great job so far. Just like @BudzMS said, ur not getting enough airflow in there. U have to constantly keep that air inside moving around, open up the flaps on ur tent too to let in fresh air, it’ll circulate around the tent. I would trim up the bottom of ur plant, that’ll not only allow some airflow which is what u need, but it’ll also use that energy towards the new growth up top. I’ve also got that same humidifier so that’ll be fine.
Definitely gotta defoliate some. Do it at the bottom of the plant. Don’t overdo it too, alot of people get clipper happy and just go nuts and they end up with a skinny looking bunch of twigs. Trim the unnecessary branches at the bottom of the plant, get some clip fans, aim one at the bottom of the plant and one at the top from a higher angle, that’ll strengthen up those branches too and the stalk. I’ll be honest tho, I’m not sure how to get rid of the mold that’s already there. I would just scoop it out and an inch under that layer and ditch it, then add some fresh soil on top
