I am well into my first outdoor grow.
I am growing 4 different strains in 5 gallon buckets. Each is filled with Miracle-Gro Performance Organics All Purpose Container Mix. I am only using water, no additional nutritiants.
Thoughts on this soil?

It might work. It might not. What I would do if contemplating using it is to perform a slurry test to determine the native PH of the soil. If it is outside range of 6.3 to 6.8 you will have a hard time growing a plant successfully to maturity. This is one big reason to try to use soils designed specifically for cannabis. My personal experience with MG products is they tend to be very low PH—like in the 4 range. Plants will start fine but suffer at the end with low yields.
Another thing cannabis specific soils do is attenuate their salts toward the end of the grow and often need supplements to finish. This is a good thing from a taste standpoint and if your MG soil–even though organic—contains residual salts at finish then you will experience a harsh smoke.

MG is hard to work with if you have to flush for any reason. The more water the soil gets, the more fertilizer is released. For a new grower, this can have you chasing your tail. Some people have used it without any issues and have successful harvest.

My 2 cents on soil, My soil is a mixture of several, geared towards growing cannabis, and oh yes all claiming to be the best:crazy_face: I believe it’s something you can’t just hope for good results. I test soil PH and mineral levels before potting a plant. I recycle my soil, so I also test TDS before potting and check run off during the growth cycle. Catch stuff early, may be able to correct it.
Hello I am new to indoor growing. I am also using miracle grow performance organic soil. I have only been giving it water since I started it in April. She is in the flowering stage and budding well from wat I can tell, the soil has worked great no issues for months . The last few days I noticed that the leaves are turning yellow and falling off starting from the bottom and moving up.i just assumed that the soil was spent and that the buds had drained all the nutes Due to the fact that this is my 1st successful indoor grow, I am not sure how to fix this issue? Or wat nutes to give now. Any suggestions please.??

thanks @dirtydave , @NEWB42089 the plants are just finished with the nutes in the soil and are sacrificing the fan leaves. there is nothing u can do in my opinion but ride it out. i give a feeding of bloom booster each watering once in flowering. thats it. your control of things went out the window as soon as you chose miracle grow. do ya have any pictures??

Thanks for responding and the advice .Unfortunately I could only find that trash soil and I was left with no choice. I know that the rule of thumb is NO miracle grow.

if possible post pics with the lights of and flash on. better to see the true colour of the leaves. dont fear the miracle grow. thats all ive used and have had lots of success. just gotta find the happy point of watering. read my threads. ive got everything ive done
Sounds like a nitrogen issue. I used MG organic soil last year outside and had great results, but I was feeding with fox farms as well. Since you are already in the flowering stage, it might be a little tricky to figure out exactly what you need, but if you use a mixture of Big Bloom, grow big, and buds and blooms it should help. Follow the feeding recommendations from Fox farms for the flowering stage. Good luck!
I’m about to make my first grow attempt outdoors with a White Widow autoflower from ILGM and was just now considering going with the Miracle Grow Organics and Fox Farms nutrients combo because of MG’s price point. I’ll spend more if it’s definitely worth it. Given what the moderator said at the beginning of this thread, it’d probably behoove me to invest in some “produce”-specific soil. Any input greatly appreciated! Thanks . . .
For cannabis Miracle grow is referred to as Miracle No many growers have problems using it although some do have success see if you can find black gold better soil cheaper than most
Welcome to the forum.
Miracle Grow soil contains time release nitrogen that nukes your plant with N and submarines your pH every time you water. Go for a good soil intended for cannabis such as a Fox Farm soil.
We have experienced growers that get away with using it, but what we typically see is new growers posting for help for problems such as these:

I have had nothing but great results using that combination. I have now used it for 5 years running, and I average anywhere from 5-8 pounds a seasoned off of 6 plants.
As far as the fox farm products, I use big bloom, grow big and tiger bloom, as well as kangaroots and microbe brew.
I start my seeds indoors using grow lights and miracle grow seed starting mix I’m peat pots, then transfer outside to in ground plots.
The first 2 years I actually started the seeds outside, in ground, but the failure rate was about 50%. Last year, with starting inside, I only had 2 plants fail, out of 12.
Great info, thanks a lot! I’m sub-amateur with this stuff (lol), but I think the online aversion to Miracle Grow soil may be due to the fact that their non-organic product contains nitrogen. Last night I found some FF Happy Frog at minimally more than what the equivalent Miracle Organic would cost, might go with that, at least this year. I’ll be printing up your response and filing it away, regardless. Any thoughts on the products below compared to Fox Farm? Thanks a lot, man. Much appreciated!
I did a test plant with the happy frog product and honestly wasn’t that impressed. It wasn’t bad, I just got better results from the MG I have no experience with the dyna-grow product.
Very good to know. The initial reason I was attracted to the MG Organic was because it seemed like a less-expensive version of some of the cannabis-only mediums. Same here. 7 weeks in with organic MG and distilled water only. Two Gorilla Glue, one Deelite, one Bruce Banner. BOOM! First time trying this method and I don’t think i’m ever going back to what I used to use. After doing some research, the only thing I might change is switching to Spring water instead of distilled. But, i’m a firm believer of “If it works - don’t fix it”. We’ll see.
