Here’s my Barney’s farm Biscotti Mintz. It’s 20 days since sprout. It’s in a 3 gallon fabric pot, Happy Frog soil. Humidity has been between 70 and 80 (trying to get it down). Temps have been 72-82. Light is LED, 14 inches from the canopy. My run off ph is too low at 5.7. I hoping to correct that with the next watering, but it’s still damp after the last watering 3 days ago.
When trying to diagnose the droopiness, chatgpt and most people have suspected over watering. I had added a one inch layer of perlite at the bottom of the pot to help with drainage. I had done that in a previous grow that didn’t grow well, but I didn’t attribute it to the perlite. When I told chatgpt about the perlite, it was not happy with me. Could that be contributing to the droop? I could probably take the plant out of the pot, dump the perlite, and place the plant back in the pot. Think I should?
Edit: it has looked droopy to me since the beginning, but this morning the new growth was especially bad
I plan to use the GH flora trio, but no additional nutes have been added yet. Latest run off readings were ph 5.1 and EC 3.5
Let your soil dry out between waterings. Drooping is otherwise normal. Note the cyclic drooping in the following time-lapse video:
Yea I’m trying to let it dry out even though it’s absolutely killing me knowing my ph is low and I can’t correct it yet.
I watered 3 days ago and it seems like it might not even be dry by tomorrow. It seems like it’s been wet a long time, but I haven’t been doing this long.
The perlite only aids in drainage if it’s blended in with the medium Growmie. Overall your plant looks good, follow a drench to drought routine. 5.7 is considerably low for soil PH and could affect nutrient absorption moving forward particularly when using synthetic fertilizer. I would start with the the input PH of 7.0, if this doesn’t raise your run off PH after a few rounds a reset flush may be needed
When a plant is small it dont drink a whole lot. If it takes a week to dry out, then sit back and wait. Being too kind seems like a common problem. Dont kill with kindness. You’re doing good
I guess I misspoke. I saw a video on growweedeasy where he suggested adding a layer of perlite on the bottom so the roots are never sitting in water. But now I’m seeing people saying it’s not a good idea because it creates a “perched water table”
Thanks for the encouragement. This droopiness has just got me concerned. It’s been there the whole grow but this morning it was very pronounced, especially in the newest growth. It’s cruel that so many problems share the same symptoms. Overwatered? Droopy. Underwatered? Droopy. Even too much or too little light can cause droop
Yea I know that ph isn’t great. I thought I could fix it with this last watering by giving it 6.8. However, another user pointed out the mistake I made. My tap water has an ec of 0.1. Apparently for input water to have much effect on soil ph, there needs to be a higher ec. Otherwise the input water just adopts the ph of the medium. I’m DYING to water it again with some calmag, hoping to raise the ph but with the general consensus being “overwatered” I’m having to be patient
Best way to tell when to water is by lifting the pot if it feels like the weight of a gallon of milk let her dry more if she feels like a loaf of bread water her. @OGIncognito and @MidwestGuy and @DaveySprocket all are saying the same thing.
But like OGIncognito said wait until soil is dry then raise your ppm to at least 125ppm then raise your ph to 7.0 then test runoff.
They won’t steer you wrong happy growing
Looks good for only 3 weeks
I wouldn’t sweat the perlite. Might be a little issue when it comes time to transplant
I was planning on this 3 gallon being the final pot. I have put a 5 gallon in my 2x2 tent before but it’s a SNUG fit with other crap in there
Ok. I know the feeling
This is an it is what it is moment. Turn on the patience switch. Even if it dries all the way she will be fine. Cant adjust ph yet. She looks ok right now. Just put away the water jug a week. Plenty of nutes in soil at this point for her size. Perlite is great. Mix in soil not a layer at bottom. We want drainage throughout the medium not just from the bottom.
Just my opinion here but Chatgpt has never grown a single plant.
You will be fine. Nothing to be done but wait it out to dry.
