Manifolding? Good idea?

If you’re not manifolding, you can top now. That’s usually about where mine are when I top. As fixer stated, give her a few days to let that top separate from the node a little so you don’t have to cut the top flush with the node. You want a little stub sticking up after the topping. If you’re still looking to manifold, let her grow a couple more nodes then top her back at the third node.

@BobbyDigital made a good point and I lost track of your thread title. What I do and what I suggested isn’t necessarily manifolding.

Here’s a picture of that same plant 2 weeks later after extensive grooming and training.

You don’t need to manifold to achieve this. Topping and lst will accomplish that. I typically top once and then lst whether it be scrog or tie to the pot. My tallest was a sativa dominant strain but was only about 40” tall. She still produced 8oz of bud. I like @fixerpower (don’t know why I can’t tag) training. I usually leave the subsidiary branches below the topped node but I like the cleanliness of that better.

It starts with an fl rather than a fi. I intended flxer (with the L) to be flowerpower, abbreviated, and didn’t do a very good job.

Ah, yes. I see now, lol

The posted plant is an indica dominant. I’ve got a similarly aged sativa (durban poison) too, but she’s only about 4 inches taller. Dirt to tip the pictured one is 16" tall. I’m hoping to get 4-5 oz from it.

Don’t think that’ll be a problem at all with the size the branches already are.

I may top rather than FIM for the second HST on my current veggies. I seems to produce a more stout foundation. I topped my last grow twice and they had a better foundation, but I had to toss them 3 weeks into flower. They were from bag seed and I got 2 males and 2 hermies. The veggies I have now I’m going to let veg until these are done flowering, so they will veg for 10 to 12 weeks versus the 7 weeks that the pictured one vegged.

You gonna go with larger pots for those?

Yeah. I put them in 10-gal pots over the weekend. I’ve topped the 1st one once already. The bottom one is going to be interesting. It has a genetic mutation called polyploid, meaning it has 2 sets of identical DNA. Polyploids are supposed to produce exceptionally strong weed. I’ll be keeping clones of that one.

The polyploid beans came as a freebee for Black Friday. I got 2 beans. The first one was a polyploid too, but the seedling was so messed up that it didn’t survive. I’m really happy this one made it. It is an orange barb.

Nice, with that long of veg they should be monsters!

I’m totally fine with letting her grow more, I don’t know that I want to manifold all 4 girls if it’s not worth it in the end to wait so long in veg. Does it produce more over the extra time vs top or FIMM a couple of times and start new plants. So to clear that up a bit, is the extra time in between for manifold worth it or is it better to top and fimm? Does it produce that much more or is is the same as running a normal plant that’s just topped and or fimm a couple of times and by the end having new plants coming up? I hope this makes sense. So am I supposed to cut bet node 4 and 5 an inch above node 4 then when the new growth comes out FIMM? I’m also interested in the super cropping and can I combine all these techniques together?

@BamaGrowLabz You might find this thread helpful too. It covers some mistakes I have made along the way when intending to use a SCROG, if you have been thinking about that too.

Honestly not sure you’re going to see a huge difference between scrog and mainline, yield wise. Especially when you calculate the added time.

I there a need to scrog if LST is used?

It’s much easier to get an even canopy with scrog. Plus it can also help support weight when she starts packing it on. When I lst’d I kept having to remove tie downs when I watered and then replace them after. Then needed to tie her up when she put on weight so the buds didn’t tip over.

I got some of the barrier fence from HD to use as scrog, should I get actual scrog or will this work?

That stuff can be a pain in the ass to cut away come harvest time. All the scrog is is some 1/2” pvc, 4, 3-way 90 degree elbows, some screws and garden twine. Just cut the pvc to the length/width you want and attach the elbows. Then add a screw every two inches. Then run the twine back and forth, wrapping it around the screws. Then go the opposite way weaving it above and below each line.

I don’t know that there is such a thing as an actual SCROG. We all build our own. If the fence is properly sized I don’t see why not. I’ve put screws every 4 inches in my PVC and strung 1/8th inch nylon rope between them. Everyone seems to do it a little different and I don’t think there is one correct way. If I had it to do over, I’d go every 3 inches instead of every 4.
