Looking into getting grow tent and fan and filter

So looking at a grow tent a 3x3 or 4x4. The one I am looking at the difference in price is 8 bucks so I think it is a no brainer and just go with 4x4. The thing that confuses me is the CFM of the fan and size. I do know from reading to get a variable speed fan. I guess a 6in fan with some high CFM. I am plan to run 2 T5 lights which should not heat up that much. I only have one grow under my belt and the grow room I was using will no longer be available. The tent will be in a shed in a fairly shaded area. I don’t really know how hot it will get seeing it is a new property to me. Any opinions or suggests. @Matthew420 @Hawkeye_diesel @bob31 @Countryboyjvd1971

Cant wait I just ordered some seeds autos, AK47, Lowryder, gold leaf.

I agree with the bigger tent. Doesn’t hurt to have a little extra space but I think you’ll fill whatever you get

Venting fans are for both heat and odor removal. With the T5’s I think you’re right about the heat. I bet you could get away with a 4" set-up (unless the shed really heats up, then another story altogether).

Personally, I think I’d still go with the 6". It’s not uncommon for people to add more lighting as they get more and more addicted to growing. You don’t want to have to upgrade later. Or if the shed get’s warmer than expected.

That said, even with a typical speed controller, they don’t turn down very low. I’d suggest getting a “good” speed controller so you can lower it to your liking if you go with the 6". I think there are some posts here on making a controller switch.

In summary, with the right speed controller, you can reduce the CFM to be the same as a 4" fan but still have the capacity to go higher if need be.

Thanks!! Yeah I am already thinking to add an additional light so ya the 4x4 is the way to go. I measured the light I have and would be able to get 2 lights in a 3x3 but that only leaves me about an inch because the light is 17in wide.

You are right not wanting to up grade. So 6in will be good.

I will check out speed controllers.

We just closed on the new house yesterday so I haven’t had time to see how hot the shed gets. Fairly wooded area so I am thinking it may not get too hot. I got one of those weather temp station thingy that records high and low temp. That should give me an idea.

Ok so a 4x4x8 tent is 128 cubic feet if you had a fan that moved 100 cfm you’d exchange your air every minute you can get a six inch with a speed controller
Your not going to want to pull to much air from tent in winter as in summer so if you had a fast fan you can speed it up as ambient temps rise
As @Matthew420 stated you may want to add lights or change to a different type in the future so having a lit extra cfm won’t hurt just get the speed controller to help you dial in your set up
I personally do things a bit different and maintain my grow room at a constant temp and humidity so I don’t need variable speed but still have them available lol

Congrats on the closing @Smokin_ernie are you close to where you were living?

Go with the 6 inch with speed controller and it allows you to be prepared for the future.

I’m with @Matthew420 and @Countryboyjvd1971 them boys know their stuff! Lol

How soon before you will be able to start your new grow?

Thanks!! We moved in the same town we were in. It is about 10 mins from where I am now. It is great my daughter stays in same school.

I just ordered seeds yesterday. Need to order fan and tent. As soon as I get seeds I am going to try one outside. Then the rest will go into the tent. That is the plan for now. Still trying to figure out how and where the sun hits. Lots of trees around.

I will tell you what I bought. Also check Walmart online for tents. The last time I checked they had a couple 4x4 tents there were a bit cheaper than Amazon.

clip on fan

I would recommend a couple of clip on style fans to move air around the pots etc. I added this one as an example and the ducting is probably cheaper from the local hardware store.

I do have two of them @BIGE and @bob31
So far I’ve had 0 issues with them I have seen some light leaking from my zippers but I’m running a decent amout with one 1000 watt and two 400 watt
Doesn’t bother me since I have it in a blacked out room as well
For the price I’d buy them again
Free shipping as well from Walmart online :+1::grin:

Thanks @bob31 for the links. I was looking at the vivosun and iPower. Each one has a combo pack or do you think ordering them separate would be better?

Thanks @BIGE I ordered a hydroplanet tent for a couple dollars cheaper. It is 98$ vs 109$ for the LA garden. It had decent reviews on amazon.

I pieced my vent system together, but there are a bunch of Pre-packaged sets on Amazon that are just fine. The other reason I went with the ipower filter is that it is reversible and lasts a bit longer than the non reversible ones.

At the time I ordered vivosun didn’t have a package I liked so I pieced them out

Whatever works for you,!

I use the i power filters also work great :+1: @bob31

Yes I’m pretty sure you recommended it to me. I realized why I bought mine the way I did. I started out using an old 100 cfm inline fan that couldn’t quite keep up with the odor so I bought the vivosun fan as it had the speed controller mounted and the ipower fan I liked didn’t…

What do you guys think of these ones? @bob31 @Matthew420 @Countryboyjvd1971 @BIGE

I think either one would work fine second one looks like it might have removable flanges so you can flip filter ? So I’d probably go with that one myself
but like I said either will work for you

@bob31 I decided to go with what you recommended. Going this way saved me a few bucks over the combo packs anyways. if you are happy with them then I am sure I will be as well.
