Lighting for a 4x4 tent

I am looking to upgrade my lighting and wanted to see what folks recommend for a 4x4 tent. The most I would grow in there would be probably 4 plants at once. I was looking at the Mars TSL2000 for a 2x4 and getting two of them. That would give my tent 600 watts total, but I am interested in opinions and suggestions.

How much light is too much light?

Hey @deedoubleyou i would take a look at this new model from HYPHOTONFLUX. It is full spectrum and also has UVA and Far Red for a more advanced grow spectrum than the Mars and with a much better distribution of light energy over your canopy.

I run the S44 Ionboard from Ac Infinity and it works perfect for a 4x4. Its only 450 watts though.

Wow that looks like a nice light! Certainly something I’m going to consider

I keep hearing people say at least 150 watts per plant, but I’ve heard people say over 200 per plant lol. What would be the difference? Denser buds, or ability to grow more in on space? My first grow is kind of working out with just 150 watts per 3 plants, but the plants stayed pretty small and will have a pretty small yield for 3 plants compared to what I see…

And you get good results from 450 from what I see in your avatar! How many plants do you usually grow at once?

Typically they recommend 30-50 watts per square foot of tent floor space. I would say 500 watts would be minimum wattage for a 4X4. I was growing in a 4x4 with 520 watts but not getting the results I wanted so I stepped down to a 3x3. The 520 watts in the 4x4 comes out to be 32.5 watts per square foot the same amount of light in a 3x3 comes out to 57.7 watts per square foot, 700 watts would give you 43.75 watts per square foot. Keep in mind that these calculations are at 100% of lights capability. I was running my lights at 100% in my 4x4 creating unneeded heat, after going to the 3x3 I can get better results at 60% and much less heat so I guess if I was to go back to a 4x4 I would look at going above what’s needed just to be able to run my lights at lower settings. You can fudge the numbers a bit by how close your lights are to the plants.

I been using the older HPF4000 for a few years now. I added additional Far Red and UVA to enhance my grow space. Using two of the HYPHOTONFLUX HOF4000’s in my 4x8 and have not been disappointed. I running Hydroponic DWC.

I run way more wattage than is required my feeling is running a a light at 60 to 75 % is easy on the light I use a 600R in my 3x3, 500 watts in my 2x4, 260 HLG in my 2x2 and HLG 200 in my other 2x2 but that’s just me a light whore.

It depends really. Ive filled the 4x4 with 2 autos and ive filled it with a single photo. Im probably gonna start running shorter vegs on my photos and running 3 or 4 at a time.

I Lst most the time so my space gets filled in very fast

This is the single photo in the 4x4
