Light distance for sprouts

I’m using the magic grow spectrum X 880 watt led. How far should my light be from my sprouts and at what brightness. Growing auto’s

I would recommend setting the intensity using a meter or the smart phone app called PHOTONE. With either you’ll set the PPFD around 250-300 or a DLI of 18-22 :love_you_gesture:

Can’t find the app and have no meter😔 I do think the light tells you the ppf output on the lcd screen though maybe I’ll try using that just not sure how accurate it is though.

It only goes down to 660 something ppf’s I think I have about the right hanging height for that.

I usually sprout seeds under a T5 fluorescent fixture but have 25 or so under a Kind X420 at 18” and cranked down as low as possible and reading 300 PPFD :love_you_gesture:

I have a 200 watt light on my seedlings right now set at 35-40% on the dimmer at 30 inches above the seedlings. They are doing great. Hopefully that helps you

My lights 880 watts and only turns down to 32% ppfd something like 668 I have it about 30 or so inches above my sprouts I think this is fine. I hope. I guess the plants will tell me if otherwise?

I’ve asked medic grow on their site. And they keep saying for seedlings they recommend 6 inches above? But these are sprouts and I feel like that will kill them.

I keep posting this because when it found it it shocked me, $31.50 takes the guesswork out of it. (bold italic are links)

If your ppfd is really over 600 and you cant dim your light anymore i would highly recommend raising your light. Like alot

I set it to 42% it was reading 300 PPFD on the photone app and DLI of 19.1, I have the light about 30 inches above my sprouts. Hopefully they start growing bigger now.

If you have an IPhone you’ll need a paper diffuser Growmie, congrats on the app :love_you_gesture:

That’s still like half the price I imagined they’d be. Not bad at all

Nice light.

Used to have to work that out with my main light. Added a HLG 65 for seedling at 12" and it improved the seedling control of node spacing substantially with no issues. “Right tool for the right job”

I just hope I didn’t stress them to much with the ppfd being so low like that. They’re already a week or 2 behind because as a noob I made a lot of mistakes. But that’s why we’re here right? To learn so we can do it better next time.
