I would find a 640 watt light built with Samsung LM301 series diodes. Viparspectra isn’t a preferred manufacturer and I’m not sure that any of us have heard of the VSFD light. It’s likely that the advertised 640 watts isn’t actually 640 watts relative to the LM301. They are likely built with inefficient diodes. There are a lot of light manufacturers out there that flat out lie. Reputable manufacturers are (in order of preference) incude HLG, AC infinity, Spider Farmer, and Mars Hydro.
Check out Szhlux lighting, I run their 620w for veg room and the 840w in flower room. Very happy so far. The 620 would be more than enough for your space. The 840w covers 7x7. The 620 is $269 on Amazon.
Agreed good grow lights are expensive no way around it. It sucks to buy a $500 dollar light and realize later that you should have spent $800. Now that’s $1300 for a good light and a light you will rarely use because it is just OK.
I would recommend 2 light fixtures totaling 560-720 watts with the diodes @MidwestGuy recommended. 2 lights will give you the option of growing different strains at different heights. There’s always the option of using booster seats on the short ones under 1 light
I have 2 in the tent currently, and the light overlap seemed it can be too much. Also, They aren’t the same light so the lights needed different height by default, which causes some shadowing. This Was pushing me to just 1… 2 is a good idea to keep in mind. Thank you. I’ll keep an eye out for lights of that size too.
Boy oh boy, I have the electrician coming today for more hookups, it’s nice not to have to tear everything down before they get here like the old days.
I’d recommend the Viparspectra KS5000. I switched from a Mars Hydro to a KS3000 in my 3x3 tent and am very glad that I did. I used my Apogee 500 PAR meter to check their claim of even edge to edge light intensity and found they are spot on. There is little to no fall off at the edges. The only draw back I found was that the light only has preset intensity settings, but I found a way around that by connecting the light to my AC Infinity controller and using the app to dial in the light intensity in 10% increments. My current grow, Miss Maui Wowie 2024 is progressing very nicely with the light. Highly recommended!
Hey @Blast heres one that I’ve been using for a while now.
I’m using a 480watt bar style led with Samsung white LM301 and red OSRAM diodes. I added a five foot extension cables to move the Meanwell drivers outside of the tent.
I also added 100watts of UVA diodes as well.
Perpetually it seems but there’s usually someone around who has the most current promo code to get the cost down for a new one. I was steered towards HLG when I first started and I’m convinced they offer the best quality per dollar. Unmatched service after the sale too. Plenty of bad experience stories around the forum about the majority of the offerings on A…zon. You would do well to choose from one of the 4 brands suggested by @MidwestGuy if you can. Less than a dollar per watt=buyer beware.
Would I be happy with the hlg blackbird? It’s sold out refurbished, but I have 25% off a new one, and maybe sign up for their email for another ten percent off. Is that a pretty good choice and price then? Thanks again for everyones help
Hlg lights are great love them check out medic grow you won’t be disappointed very nice lights the smart 8 has lm301 diodes the rest have a little older diodes but they’re great lights check out Dr MJ Coco’s review on them
I agree those 4 light companies aren’t the only ones that can make a good light. Many are beginning to catch on and try to catch up. The main things that should guide your decision is to expect to pay around a dollar per watt for any light worth investing in and preferably equipped with Samsung 301 series diodes
Wife said quit looking at lights. Get the new hlg scorpion diablo, and get back to chores. I’m not one to argue, but that isn’t ridiculous overkill for a 4x4, is it? Thanks for your opinions and ideas
