Just about ready for my first grow!

Have a vivo 3x3 tent setup here, carbon filter, 6in fan, duct work venting out of the ten into the room it’s in… vs2000 led light. Vivosun programmable timer, and I just realized I’ll be needing an extension chord for the light and the fan so that’s coming.

Auto seeds from ilgm…
White widow and Sour Diesel
Seeds were dropped in two separate glasses of filter water and left in a dark cabinet a few hours ago. I’ll plant two of each in here. One seed in each 4 gallon pot. I live in the northeast, but for the heck of it I’m also going to put two seeds outside in two separate 4g pots a sunny part of the yard just to see if I’m able to get anything this late into the season.

After the seeds have 1/4in-1/2in tail I’ll be dropping them in the pots which will be filled with FoxFarmOceanForest. My understanding is that they likely won’t need any nutes for the first 3-4 weeks due to this soil being loaded already. I do have the nute kit and the plant protector kit from ilgm, so I’m tentatively planning to start feeding them around the 3-4 week mark and will likely use the schedule and doses recommended on this site for their nute packages.

Just wanted to share! I know many of you have this down to a finite science. I’m just trying to keep it relatively simple for my first go round, but tips or suggestions are definitely welcomed :sunglasses:

One random question I do have… this tent has a large number of vents and holes in it. My assumption is that I should close all that I don’t need opened right? One is open for the duct and one is slightly open for the power chords, but should the other be left open for the sake of more sore flow getting in or?

Good luck with your grow…happy growing :bat:

Yes. Even though autos are not prone to light leaks like a photo, it is a good idea to keep everything pretty tight. The rectangle flaps are meant for intakes and can be adjusted to regulate airflow somewhat.
Good luck with your first adventure. Ask lots of questions, post lots of pictures and let us know how it is going.

I have similiar set up and I only use filtration system when in flower

I second that. You won’t need a carbon filter for a month or more. There won’t be any troublesome smell before then. You’d just be wearing down the carbon filter for no reason. The less you use it per grow the longer it’ll be before you buy another one. Good luck with your grow.

Sounds like you’ve been doing your research. My advice is to take it easy, don’t stress and learn how to water. If you have questions or concerns, there’s plenty of good growers here to keep you on track

Get yourself a decent ph pen. There’s lots of good ones, I like the apera-ph20

Apera over bluelab for sure!
Be sure to get a bottle of this for your ph pen

Keeps the probe clean and moist so it doesnt crack the glass.

The bottom square vents are for passive intake. You want at least one open during germ and veg, when your vent fan goes off to cool your teng it will pull through there, you want that cool air to come in around your plants and up past your light. Cools your leaves and your light. Once flowering starts, it becomes situational. By that I mean it is hard on fans to pull air through the canvas but smells will escape when your lights are off and the fans are pushing air around. If smells arent a big deal, keep atleast one open. If smells are an issue close em up, it just takes a lil of the top of your fans overall lifespan. Negative pressure is your friend when smells are potential problem. This video might be useful. https://youtu.be/Y14gxvrO9JM

Your looking at a late Nov harvest. Night time temps get chilly in the north. Might serve you to have a night time place inside to put them. Make sure it has air circulation to combat rot while inside.

Yes

Start at 1/2 dose and build up to a full dose. Especially in OF soil.

Great looking setup, seems you have a good idea of the process. Well done, and good luck.:popcorn: set to watch.

Looking good, I would maybe look at adding some extra pearlite and vermiculite to soil, helps with breathing room in soil. Plus it helps a lot when you flush. Ocean forest burned pretty high with my first grow.
This time around I went with happy frog and coco loco and lots of vermiculite and pearlite and even some blood meal in there. Hoping to control ppm a lot more this time around.

Super helpful as I thought I was supposed to run the fan the entire duration, thanks for seconding VirginiaGrowBoy’s comment

I already purchased this guy

Hoping it will work, but I could always get a different one as I don’t remember it being all that expensive

Incredibly helpful, thank you! I live alone so although I prefer to keep smell under control it, isn’t a huge issue. The duct running from the filter and fan is just going to spit the air out into the room it’s in as I haven’t set it up to vent outside or anything.

So if I understand this right… During germination and vegetation don’t bother turning on the fan to pull air through the filter. Instead, just leave some of the vent’s open so air can passively travel through the tent(no fans at this time or is this why some people use those tiny little clip on fans I sometimes see intents?). Then once the flowering begins, I should close the vents and turn on the fan to pull air through the filter, or leave a vent open to make it easier on the fan?

Great idea about taking the outdoor plants in at night, hadn’t thought of that. I know it’s pretty late, so I don’t have real high hopes, but wanted to give it a shot!

Will definitely start slow with the nute doses as suggested!

Dont know if it was mentioned bc i didnt read every comment but get you something to raise those pots off the floor a bit

You may need to run the exhaust before then if humidity gets out of hand, which I doubt at that stage of growth. If you do just disconnect the filter and it’ll last you longer.

Welcome to the community ! With the tent zipped up exhaust fan running you will need to open one hole at the bottom of the tent. This will allow fresh air to be pulled in the bottom an hot stale air Exhausted out the top. Put a peace of flex pipe in the hole pull pucker string tight an lay on floor with a couple snake bends to prevent light leakage. Also not too late to think about fabric pots. Just my thoughts good luck with your new venture. :v::+1:

Highly recommend you get the pen type Ph and PPM meters. That 3 in 1 probe is not gonna cut it. You need more precise measurements than that needle and dial.

I wouldn’t use this. I would mention that you’ll need a TDS pen to measure nutrients and run off when that time comes :love_you_gesture:

You have the basic setup. Looking good!
Raising the pots off the floor was mentioned. When you do that you will also need a tray or saucer to catch the water coming through the soil. I also have a 3x3 and the easiest way I found to raise the pots and collect runoff is to use an elevated rack with saucers below the rack.
