First successful seed from ILGM got the 20 pack, gifted some to others and this is second one turned out ok.
She is 100% an Autoflower 18/6 schedule entire life.
Had difficulty adapting to feeding regimen with her which resulted in nutrient burn and/or deficiency early in growth.
Late veg she was about 24-26inches tall, now in late flower she is 38inches tall.
She is in 5gal of fox farm happy frog, given GH floraNova duo as well as compost tea, liquid kool bloom and humid acids.
Day 124 … two days away from 18 weeks.
My peers have grown photoperiods in less time, at first thought she was just taking her time, could it be stress related?
She went from having thick compact and dense nugs, to drying out fast and becoming airy, fox tailing, and making nonstop new white pistils even though most of the foliage is dead and gone.
Top half of the plant has anywhere from 20-40% amber trichomes
Bottom half has anywhere from 5-20% amber.
Temps have been pretty steadily over 82F in the tent even with ac going temps are basically non existent at this point, get a faint smell burying nose in her, that’s New England for ya
Really didn’t want first successful grow to be filled with fox tails but alas here we are, how much worse could it get?
Chop her?
No predicting cannabis at all. Have had autos and photos go short and some long.
They simply do what they do.
Many of my plants look like that. The good news is a little stress and struggle on the plants part produces more resin. I dont try to grow pretty plants. I let them go yellow almost every grow.
I just mentioned in another thread that autos are prone to producing less dense buds. Its just in their nature. Some will make denser than others but its only genetic. The grower in the other thread even had one of his autos out in the sun and it still was airy.
Thanks for the reply, ye the first white widow auto was out in the sun, did a micro run 2 gal happy frog with same nutes but less attention, she got to be about 8-9 inches tall and produced very airy buds got around a qtr of dry weight from her, lots of fox tailing and she was showing early signs of PM so chopped her early and bud washed that stuff has been curing around 2 weeks now and terpenes are pretty much non-existent. She was pretty resinous tho.
I opened a jar with some year old blueberry auto and it smelled very similar to the weed I used to buy in High School. Was a pleasant flashback. Those terps must really linger.
Thank you! She does look really good, but that’s the dilemma here. If decision is made to wait longer for more amber trichomes it’s possible the cons outweigh the pros. Really hoping to get more of a couchlock effect out of her, really my question is will waiting longer for more amber trichomes negatively affect harvest? How much will be affected yield/taste/terpene wise? The goal here is get her in the happy medium place of both quality and quantity, and it seems like in these short 5 days from week 17 she has let a lot of weight go, due to evaporation from this heat is my understanding. It’s a catch 22, the trade off seems to be yield and terpenes for a more narcotic and smooth smoke, at least in her current environment.
Well thanks again for the kind comment to inspire rant in me,
Feel like I basically answered my own question there.
Wow 1 year old buds! Have never been able to keep it that long, but perhaps there is a science to that. Wonder if terpenes can multiply and rejuvenate in correct conditions, like cheese or aged wine… perhaps there is hope for good nose yet
Yea the terpenes and everything will be there just the high will be different. If you have time let her ride and i also feel you on the heat been in new England. Im fighting wpm
I would cut back on the light hours. That will slow the foxtailing and new white pistils. Only the leaves need/use light and like you said, they are mostly gone.
I love opening the grove bags of pots i grew 1.5 years ago , the terps are so strong and clean it makes my mouth water, anyways you re foxtails are ripe so you’re good to harvest
