J's Hydro Grow For Potent Smoke

Oh my goodness guys I think i found the problem… @SausageMahoney @kaptain3d

If I had a dirty res (chlamydospores, pathogens) when I did this, the timeline tracks I think for it being the problem. And why the seedlings in rockwool are wilting like the bigger one in Promix. wilting is probably some fusarium or pythium crap… :face_with_symbols_on_mouth::man_facepalming:

Some changes I think I’ma make going forward

  1. airstone in the res
  2. southern ag in the res
3)hold off on the daily feeding for the Promix and only water when 50% dry until its large enough to handle daily feed

I run a clean rez. I use calhypo (poolshock) very small amounts, shooting for 1-5ppm chlorine. Works amazingly! We do the same at work.

Thought I should clarify.
I mix this.

At a rate of 1g/100ml. This will be enough pool shock to last me…a while. I can make 377 bottles at this rate. It stays good for a week or so in an opaque sealed jug. I add at about 8-10ml/ 5gal rez. Keeps the goop out of rez and tray. Only downside is that I cant use anything bennificial as far as microbes or fungus. On the plus side of that..no fungus gnats.

I actually have hypochlorous acid at 250ppm. Will this work the same way? I would love to run a clean res without airstones. Someone told me that the poolshock stuff can build up dangerous residuals? If it works for you though… your plants/ workplace look amazing so!

Yes, BB on cacti.

I use 1 drop bleach per gal water to run sterile for my cloner. I don’t grow hydro, but it’s good to know it would work the same

I use 10mls of 3% hydrogen peroxide per 10 litres of reservoir.

Hydrogen peroxide H2O2 is a powerful tool in hydroponics used to boost dissolved oxygen in the root zone and act as a sanitizing agent to prevent root rot. It breaks down rapidly into water and oxygen, sterilizing the water and keeping your system free of harmful bacteria and algae.

I have a 30 gal RDWC system how much of peroxide would you recommend using? And how often would you use? I’m in week 10 of flower hoping to harvest in a week or two.

30 gallons is 113.5 litres, so 120mls to 180mls of 3% H2O2 and would add this when making any new res or whenever you detect off odurs or root problems.

After about 24 hours all the H2O2 will dissipate and you should see results in the next few days, if not a repeat again.

H202 may work short term. Calhypo is more effective, longer lasting, more stable and cheaper, IMO.

Thanks for the information!

H2o2 being short term is why I was considering the HOCl. Any experience with it?

With either the pool shock or HOCl, should one worry about build up of chlorine in the res, or only in recirculating systems? (Want to eventually move on to recirculating flood tables) I’m thinking between 1-5ppm maximum would still be safe. Just dont wanna hurt my roots since I think I just put them through it pretty hard! The Promix Plant is still heavy which tells me she’s not been drinking as much- root damage.

They are actually one and the same.
(I didnt know that, I just did a lil research to answer your question  )

When you dissolve Cal Hypo into water, it undergoes a chemical reaction that generates HOCl. The difference isn’t what kills the bacteria. It’s the chemical form you purchase, how much it costs, and how it affects your water chemistry.

Roflmao, difficult math isnt difficult really. Its more about quality of calhypo.

No not in drain to waste. It off gasses quickly, especially with aeration.

So after a long dry back, I put 150ml HOCl in the res for 1.5ppm concentration. Then i ran 5.6 pH 1.0 EC solution through these seedlings. They seem pretty rough.Their runoff pH is really high at 6.4 pH. But the runoff EC is perfect at .9ec. I ran the same solution thru the 3 gallon promix pot and runoff ec was 1.2. I’m hoping that the HOCl will kill any root rot spores and pave the way for new healthy white roots.

I have hope for the seedlings to recover because all their new growth looks right and they seem to still have robust root development starting again…

I numbered and tagged them though and #1-4 are all very robust and handled this obstacle like champs. I’ll be watching them closely

That plant look any better?

The So Fn Gassy? Not really. It got worse over the dryback as more leaves browned, crisped and died. But i turned the lights way down (from 60% to 20%) to help them slow transpiration demands while the root system recovered. The new growth is ugly, burnt and curly. But seems like it’s getting better rather than worse like before. Will have to check back in 24 hours for the real answer

So got the girls moved to the 4x4 where they’ll live the rest of their lives. You can see the Gassy is trying to come back.. think I might try to take a healthy clone and start over with her

The seedlings look pretty good!
