Is this the right distance from my light source?

I have a new seedling, and just purchased a 50 watt full spectrum led bulb. I used to have my plant about 40 cm away but noticed almost no growth, so I decided to cut the distance in half to 20cm i am worried that it may be too much, however at 40cm i had no burns at all, and the bulb irradiates almost no heat.

Update:
I cannot see any growth at all again, 2 days have passed. I don’t know what may be causing the slow development, im almost sure its the light.

She’s building her root system in the soil. It’s common for a hault in growth while the Magic happens below

Thanks for the reply  I thought about that too, but i got a little bit concerned because it has never happened to me, and i’ve had a couple of other seedlings growing without any sort of delay

There will be lots of firsts as you continue to grow. Have you grown them all veg to flower under that light?

No, that’s why I am worried, it is my first time using this bulb, all of my other grows have been outdoors. I’m pretty sure I’m missing something.

Here are the specifications of the bulb:
50 watts total
9.6 watts energy draw
576 lumens
42 red LEDs
18 blue LEDs
6 warm white LEDs
6 IR LEDs
6 UV LEDs

Unfortunately, that bulb won’t yield you too much once you start flowering. You might do fine in veg, but it won’t be able to supply the plant enough energy in flower to produce the big dense buds we all like. @dbrn32 can tell you more, he’s the LED god lol

I agree, you’re not going to get much done with that bulb. Although if you’re 6-8” away you should eventually start to see a little bit of growth.

If you plan on growing indoors you’ll definitely want to get something else.

Damn :frowning: That doesn’t worry me that much, the yield that i get will be for personal use, and I am a once in a while smoker. I just hope that i can get it to flower.

Also, returning to the growth problem, I just remembered I transplanted it 4 days ago, maybe it is still adjusting to its new home.

Yeah that’s probably exactly what it is. Transplant causes them to stall out sometimes. She’ bounce back for you.

I agree, transplant will do that. You probably transplanted a little early, but ride it out.

If you’re planning on flowering under that light alone, I wouldn’t expect more than a few grams. If you can swing it, I’d look at getting something a little bigger.

Yeah, I will get a new one as soon as possible. Which ones do you recommend? I want one that isn’t that expensive, and for only one plant.

PD: Thanks to both of you for answering constantly on the thread

How big is your space? I can see you have reflective walls so that will help.

Its roughly 14” x 24” x 24” it is kinda small, but i can make it a little bigger.

I don’t necessarily care what size it is, just wanna make sure you get the proper light for it. One plant is pretty subjective. Some people scrog a single plant into a 4’x4’ place. Other people can run 4 or more plants in a 2’x2’ space. Really just depends on what the particular grower is trying to do.

So if you intend to leave it that size, I’ll work with that. If you intend to make it bigger, now would be a good time to do so. Just so I can try to get you a good light for however it will end up.

For now I will leave it the size it is then, maybe in the future i will get a grow tent, but for this particular plant let’s work with the current space.

Check out the hlg-65 and hlg-100 in something like 3000k color temp.

With that kind of height restriction that’s about as good as you’re gonna do. Probably opt for the 65 as you’ll be able to run it a little closer during flower. It’s just a little small on the power end.

My seedling did something similar. It was barely growing under my LED panel. I took a shot and put her under a 6500k 85 watt (actual) cfl bulb. After I did that she took off like crazy.i put her back under the Led after she got a little bigger and has done great with it since. I also have to agree with @MattyBear my girl was working on a huge root system at the same time thus the name root :grinning:

A quick update… My seedling is growing a little faster now, but it is still kinda slow… I am gonna order the HLG 65 this month, but for now I found these cfls laying around. They are 5000k each, will they work better for now? @dbrn32

I would think quite a bit better than what you had before. Can you get some sort of reflection device over the top of them? That will help too. You can probably find some ideas if you web search something like “diy cfl reflector”. Stoners been making them for years
