My gorilla cookies auto is getting really yellow fast, is she going to make it? I cannot figure out what she needs, she is 47 days old in third week of flower, I cannot figure out how to stop the yellowing, I’m sure it’s a nutrient deficiency, I’m top feed her yesterday with Gaia green bloom amendments 2-8-4 but am I to late to keep her going? Or is this a case of nutrient burn? She is growing in 70% coco 30 %organic super soil mix and she was very bright and green and healthy up until early last week is when the yellowing set it I gave her a few feeding of black strap molasses, last week and top fed amendments yesterday. She is my biggest auto plant I grown this far and I really don’t wanna lose her she is at least 3-4 weeks from finish id guess.
What are your runoff pH and PPM? What product(s) are you feeding and what soil are you growing in?
I havent checked in a minute because she had been doing so well, what range should they be in? It’s 70% coco coir mixed with a lot of perlite and 30 % organic super soil called “superb soil”
In coco your pH should be in the range 5.8 to 6.2. I would run it at 6.0 since you are in a mix of soil and coco. PPM should be ~1,000.
Mixing coco and soil can cause problems. They each have differing pH and watering requirements.
Yea I’m learning that is seems to be a tricky thing to control, the water going in is ph’d right around 5.9-6.0
Yes, and your runoff pH should be the same. The pH going in and that coming out is often different.
This couldn’t possibly be a sign of over watering either right? I am watering her with about a liter and a half every day, I go by weight of the pot and she seems to drink about that much everyday
Possibly, but you have other issues to worry about first (pH and PPM.)
This is the difficulty of mixing coco and soil. Coco should be watered daily as it becomes hydrophobic if it dries out. Soil grows should be left to dry out before watering again.
So the coco just beneath the top layer is still damp, so should I wait to water her again to test the ph and ppm? I never really get run off watering her with a 1.5 liters a day so I’d probably have to soak it pretty well to get actual runoff in the drip tray. I know I am probably saying a lot of horrendous things I am doing wrong, I just like to do this as a hobby and am learning everything as I go.
Go for it. The runoff pH and PPM are needed so we can take corrective action or otherwise determine what is going on.
It may be nothing, but we need pH and PPM to determine that.
Okay results are in, I watered till run off, took a little over half a gallon, but ph in was 6.2 ph, ph out was 6.57 and ppm was 1127, granted I did just top feed yesterday with Gaia green 2-8-4 might have something to do with such a high ppm. What are your thoughts?
pH and PPM are fine. It’s just a little early to see fade at this point, but that may be what is happening (genetics and all that.) Make sure that a decent portion of that PPM is nitrogen. If not fade, then nitrogen deficient.
Edit: I would get your pH down to ~6.0 with your soil/coco mix.
1,100 is fine. Target 1,000.
Thanks for all your insight, if I don’t see any improvement I’ll up the nitrogen feeding, maybe give some all purpose or just slow release nitrogen? Is there any chance I can bring the color back to the plant leaves or am I just screwed at this point in that.
It’s best to use a complete nutrient product intended for cannabis. Jacks 321, General Hydroponics, and Advanced Nutrients are all good options.
Usually nute burn starts on the tip of the leaf as the plant pushes the extra nutes out. I overfed my GG4 auto, the tip of some leaves are very yellow turing brown (dead). Gonna share a couple of pictures with ya in case it helps:
I think what you are seeing is just the plant prioritising the flowers / sacrificing its leaves. Mine is 70 days old and in her 6th week of flowering. Notice how she sucked the hell out of some of her leaves. I tend to cut them out before they are totally yellow, in this picture I left it as a reference:
So if that was the case where she is just sucking the nutes out of her leaves to prioritize bud growth, at that rate they are yellowing will she be able to make it to the end of flower with the lack of leaves? She seems to be in a good nutrient range according to the ppm runoff but if she keeps losing leaves will she still be able to pack on bud weight? I have at least 3 weeks of flower left.
Yes. Quite a bit given a good environment. It’s really too early to see fade. I expect you have a nitrogen deficiency.
I don’t hear much about Gaia Green, but 2-8-4 is weak all around, especially on nitrogen. Cannabis needs on the order of 20-10-20. I would find a Gaia Green user here in the forum who can point you to the right product to use or switch to a known good product like Jacks 321. It will make a massive difference.
Add some microorganisms like king crab. It will help with the uptake of nutrients. It looks like you’re about 5 weeks into flower, you can get leaves that yellow, long as your buds are not suffering.
