Some growers measure both that going in as well as runoff. I’ve never found measuring the input PPM useful, though I’ve grown so much that I have a pretty good idea of how to calibrate my feeds to achieve the proper runoff PPM without measuring the PPM going in.
Measuring input pH (as well as runoff) is very useful.
