Like the title says I’m a newb and starting a grow indoors. I already purchased a 4x2x5 foot tent, 2 Mars hydro 300 led lights and some FFOF soil. I also have a 4 in exhaust fan with carbon filter that I’ll be using. I purchased seeds from here and got the platinum mix pack all fem. will my lights be good to grow 2 plants in my tent and should I need anything else.
Your going to need timers for sure, dehumidifer and a humidifier isnt a bad shour but you can get thise if you realise you need them. Get 2 ir 3 6 inch clip on fans, a heater possibly if your in a cold climate as leds wont help you heat the tent
If you need back up call lol you beat me to it
Also thermostat hunidistat, ph meter, ppm meter (called a tds meter) urmm maybe some sort of nutes? Id advise getting great white rooting powder for sure (great stuff) maybe look into cfls if you want some more light later on, a 4 way splitter and 4 bulbs only cost around 30 bucks and they are great for babies, and when it comes to flower they can almost be touching the buds! So pretty nifty
Lol im glad he went for leds man, i wish i thought about the pain in the ass all those 600w hids would be back when i was in his situation
I actually bought a timer, and some fox farms nutes already. I actually haven’t even gotten all my stuff in the mail already so I’m still waiting to set it all up but once it’s going I’ll be adding pics. I also got a ph meter and humidity and temp gauge( in the mail still too) I wasn’t too sure if I’d need a humidifier cause where I live it’s usually warm and I’m picking up some fans later today actually!
Before you get the plants goin, do a couple days with just the equipment and see where your temps and humidity levels are at
Alright I’ll do that since I haven’t gotten my seeds yet. I think everything will be arriving all within a couple days!
Then the fun begins haha
Welcome to the forum you’re going to get more help on here than you can imagine congratulations on your new set up if you need anything tag me but there are a lot of great people on here that will be more than happy to help you
I was wondering if it would be better to do a hydro setup or to just use the FFOF that I already ordered and go hydro later? @Hogmaster
I’m not a Hydro grow her but I sure do love growing in soil the nice stuff about that is you can grow it from start to finish with Foxfarm but you can make it a lot fatter with nutrients and it depends on what you’re going to autos you can do Start to finish photos take a little more than what the Fox Farm has to offer
I’m new to this as well with my second grow in progress. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. One thing I have learned is that we really are growing a weed. It’s a tough plant so if you get close you should be fine. I think soil is a good choice for your first grow over hydro, just to get a feel for the plants IMO. A good variety of pots is probably in order, from start to finish. Fabric pots are popular for a number of reasons.
I was planing on doing them in 5 gallon bucks but wanted to make the decision before I start drilling holes in them. But I’m just gonna do it in soil till I use it up. I’ll keep everyone posted
Welcome! I have the same dimensions tent, same lights, with timers on your lights you should be all set to grow 2 nice plants at a time as I am
You will need a way to measure and adjust the pH of your plant’s water, and some nutrients for later in their growth phase.
Reading and searching on threads here you will find plenty of info on that. I am an old school wet chemist so I use simple liquid pH indicator and liquid pH Up and Down solutions, plus I use distilled water to feed my plants.
5 gallon cloth pots, a propagation tray, some soil for starting seeds, a a small mat to keep your seedlings warm (if you live in a cold climate)
Best of all you found this community, who are very knowledgeable and supportive!
I think you should stick with soil for at least the first 10 grows …after that if you think you need to go Hydro you can , but Hydro is a lot less forgiving if you don’t know what your plants are asking for and you’re not sure how to give it to them… you could be setting yourself up for failure …so if I were you I would just stick with the soil and get used to what you’re doing before trying to do something as extreme as hydro…
I was a soil guy for 7 years before recently switching up to hydro about 7-8 months ago and it is a little tricky…
Alright thank you! That’s what I’m gonna do then
@Hogmaster what is cal mag and will I need to get some?
Calcium magnesium and I believe some iron.
It’s a supplement for when your water doesn’t contain enough of those minerals on its own and helps let the plant have a better absorb nutrients, I belive
What is it used for? Do I have to “feed it” that offen lol
