Igloo cooler as DWC reservoir

so i plan on using an Igloo Beverage cooler (5 gallon) because i’m concerned about temps over 72 degree F in my my grow tent. I have all the part from Mars Hydro DWC system (4 buckets)…i need to install a water level indicator on it but i’ll need grommets (or someway) that will go thru the foam lining

Could you do some kind of float through the edge of the lid to let you know water level without having to cut through the foam insulated part

The water level in the reservoir sets the level of the buckets. As this is important the best Idea I stumbled upon was a fellow who drilled a hole in the top of the same cooler so he could mount a 3 liter bottle that would have a stand pipe to the water level required. As long as the water was still in the bottle the level in the buckets was fine. He did not have any other way to look at water level without taking the lid off.
Those external tubes are a leak source. I had leakage on them doing dwc and the turbulation of a recirculating system makes it worse.

Welcome to the forum. That is a cool idea. It will not change things in your tent though. I run 88 in mine all the time. What you are looking at here only changes the root temps. The actual plant temps will be the same. Even in fabric pots and high tent temps. The roots stay much cooler than the air surrounding them. My brain is fuzzy right now. I will try to remember who it is that has some thing similar to this set up. It works great for him though. :+1:
