DWC heat and humidity issues

Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read and help out. This is my first dwc grow (5th overall) and I’m in a new space. Its a medium sized room upstairs, and i have a 4x4x7ish grow tent inside the room. My humidity hovers between 30-40%, and the temperature around 74-84° F, with the water in the reservoirs slightly higher than that. I’ve played around with my humidifier, exhaust fan, and the house AC to try to manipulate everything, but can’t get it much better than those numbers. I’m thinking about getting a window unit or spot cooler/portable AC for the room to drop the overall temp of the room down to about 60, which will hopefully get the tempos inside the tent in the correct range, and just adding another humidifier to compensate for the added dehumidification due to the excess cooling. (I actually work in hvac, so this is right up my alley for problem solving) Let me know what you guys think, and any cooling equipment you’d recommend.

I’ve also considered the freezing bottles of water and dropping them into the reservoirs method, but I’m not as big a fan of that.

Thanks again!

Hi @Jjackt19 I have been growing in a bedroom with DWC in 2 tents for nearly 3years now and I have found that I don’t worry about humidity except when drying and germination/seedling…other wise it goes with what ever the house is. The temps in my 2 tents usually stay around 79-81 F. I know some will say this is not good but I get good results without going to extremes. My reservoirs are typically lower around 72-75 F. Good luck!

Hey @Jjackt19 , welcome to the forum.
Have you looked into a chiller for the resevoir?
The temps for growing will work. I grow just fine in the high 70s low 80s
Not a lot of experience with hydro but I have read its important to keep the water temps down to slow bacterial growth.

Thanks for the feedback guys. So far, (week 3) they’re doing well, so maybe it’ll be fine as long as i clean the buckets well every water change.

I haven’t had much luck looking for chillers, and i think they may be cost prohibitive. I have 4 separate reservoirs, and the nutrient solution doesn’t circulate between them. I am concerned about root rot and negative bacteria growth though. Perhaps they’ll be fine, as @Retiredoldguy said.

@Jjackt19 I grow each of my 3 plants in separate reservoirs as well. I use Hydroguard to prevent root issues and block any light from entering the reservoir…changeout of the reservoir every 7 days is also highly recommended to keep things fresh

I was looking into to hydroguard. I guess I’ll give that a try as well!
