That’s a new one, don’t believe I’ve seen one with those colors. In grand scheme, it’s just a connector. As long as each wire matches up it will work just fine.
As far as size goes, make it work for you. Since I’m fairly confident about how two boards would do in a 3x3, you could also consider making it as two lights and then just install some cross bars to make the two fixtures one. Or, even just put two different fixtures into the 4x4. However you see fit.
I forgot a major but simple item…the pig tail. Do I need a new one or can I just cut a heavy duty orange extension cord? This way I could give myself a custom length (20’ max) high-vis power cable.
Made mine from computer cords, the saving grace is @dbrn32 telling me what color wire went to driver’s acl and acn wiring of driver input. That was the part I had been missing.
Yeah, that question is coming lol. I noticed that on the drivers. I was just waiting to get things mostly built as I can just do the final connections last step.
Severely disappointed in HLG. After late nights of building the frame, I was hoping to put the finishing touches and connect everything and that’s not going to happen today…
So my first experience with HLG suggests they are low quality. Very annoyed because after all this wait, the build is slowed by main core item arriving broken.
They’re shipped in an anti-static bag just stacked on each other.
I had stopped right after the previous one to vent. I came back after a few minutes to see if I can just build and wait and found the second broken one. There is no “protection” packaging. I just sent them an email and I’m going to give them until Monday to call my credit card company. I’m definitely on the miffed side right now because my personal time has been super limited …and plants only have a certain amount of time to do their thing.
That sucks. By nature they are not very robust parts. I’ve had bridgelux strips show up with connectors damaged in shipping. How is the other set of connections? You could probably just use those, if you wanted to.
I’m sorry to read and see you had issues. When I got my HLG-135 it was packed very well. I know that doesn’t help you, I’m jus surprised they weren’t packed better.
Is there more than one connecting point? I can’t tell by the picture. Could you use one of those if there is? It could get you out of jam until replacements come in.
Hmmm…@bubblehead will it function with a broken clip? 3 out of 4 look good. I suppose I can turn the board to get the right Pos/Neg facing the right ways. I have a broken pos and neg on the given boards
That is actually really good to hear. I can de-stress a little lol. Better seal it with a bowl!
That being said, I’m going to screw these boards down the make a simple wiring diagram. After a quick bite, this baby may just be up and running in a little while.
Sounds like it will work out until you get the new boards. I would would apply some electrical tape to the broken connectors. When the light is on those will be hot. As many times as I bumped my head on my light I’d hate for you to get a nice poke if you hit the right spot.
That’s what I was suggesting. You only need 1 positive and 1 negative to wire board properly.
I have just used the set that works and put a couple dabs of liquid electrical tape on broken connectors in past. If you want to do this it will be perfectly fine. If you want to contact hlg for replacement, no harm in that either. Totally up to you.
Holy Mackerel! Now I get it. This effer is blinding! I won’t be able to open my tent without sunglasses.
I only hooked up one driver and one set of lights to test in case I blew anything out and it looks like daylight in my basement. Literally it is daylight in my basement. So now I see how powerful this will be in a tent.
