Need light advice

Hi all! New her. Have everything to get started but have discovered that my light is not good enough. I want to use LEDs. I have a 4x4 tent. Lots available. I was wanting to spend less than $500. I was looking at Phlizon 2000w High Power grow light. Could get two of these.@ $208.99 or 1 Viparspectra V1200 @$339. Need something to do the whole grow. What about Cob lights?
Philzon CREE Cob 2000w @$299. All sugestions appreciated. I could build my own with a little guidance.

Every light you referenced is basically junk. These lights are using misleading (lying) information to get you to buy their light. A ā€˜1,200’ watt light is actually only putting out 200 watts and it’s ā€˜equivalent’ to such and such light.

I linked you to the diy light thread. @dbrn32 is our lighting expert and I strongly recommend you spend some time and read up on lights.

You should be looking at Quantum Boards from Horticulture Lighting Group. (Sorry; no links to that allowed) These use latest technology lights and the efficacy is FAR superior to anything else you can get other than diy. The lights you are looking at require 50 wall watts per square foot and not what the ā€˜equivalent’ is. High efficiency lights need as little as 25 watts/square foot to get the same results.

If you buy one of those Amazon lights you will ultimately regret it.

If you have a bit of time and hands on skills @dbrn32 can help you make an amazing light.
If not you should be looking at something with Samsung LM301B’s.

Cheap out on light and nothing else will matter, basic rule is if you can buy it on amazon it’s not a good light lol

Is this the light? It draws 450 watts so you would need 2 of these to flower off your plants. Also the canopy coverage is poor compared to a QB.

Iam running vera cobs from timber grow lights

These work thru the whole process in a 4x4 tent?

Yes; you would probably only need one for most of veg then energize both for flower. (plants take up more space in flower so have to be spread out) You would be in a 3,000K or 3,500K which will do it all.

Horticulture lighting group has HLG 550 V1 or V2 refurbished for $599/$699. Would this single light be enough for a 4x4 tent. Also would it work for veg and flower?

3500k light temperature is your best bet from veg to flower, you can do it with 3000k but 3500k is a better bet.
That being said
You could run CFL’s with a 6400k to start and then switch to 3000k, this is what I do because 3500k was not an option.

If you read HLG’s website they will tell you how many plants their lights are meant to flower.
I have a 320xl that I use for 2 plants in a 4x2

I have a 4x4 tent s d switched to 2 260xl rspec kits. I’m glad I did as my new babies have grown up faster than when I was using Viparspectra PAR600 which pulls around 275 watts. Definitely not enough.

Between the 4 light kits I’ve sunk $1250. Better to save a little more and get the HLG QB’s or build your own. Either way you will want the advice from @dbrn32.

I have same rspec kit and I’m pleased too :hugs: just ordering second one :grin:

Thanks! @Nicky @MrPeat

I built a Timber clone using Vero SE COB’s ! Awesome light. Bridgelux has great leds… It’s not all Sammy boards…

You could build a Bridgelux COB or strip light. Samsung QB is also great for board builds.

Before I put in my HLG 260xl rspec kits x 2 my GSC only had one Cola. Ummm she has now done this since putting them in. I didn’t train her to do it at all. I’m a proud dad right now. Granted she was already st 60ā€ tall when I did put in the HLG lights.

Lots of much better options for lights, as the others have stated. Happy to help if you have specific questions or are looking for feedback.

That looks like a foxtail… did the main foxtail after adding the Rspec QB? Hard to see…

@Poseidon These are what was on the main Cola. The brighter light is helping the plant to branch out. And this plant was already screwed because I didn’t know how to Scrog.

So she is going to be my test victim for all kinds of learning curves.

I’m not concerned if she has a high THC level at all. I will probably make edibles out of here.

@Poseidon Here you go and I hope these photos show better view. Like I said I was already growing this beast long before I was on this Forum. I’ve learned all kinds of things since joining.

Each branch is coming off the main stem below the main Cola. They seem to be at around a 70 degree angle or so.
