I am getting a 4x4 tent. And have about 200 to spend on a light. What would be my best option led or hps.
Save up your cash because at that price range good luck getting a good light. You can’t go cheap on good lights. I switched to two HLG 260xl rspec kits. I just harvested 2 plants…one gave me 96 grams dried and no stems. The other was 318 grams dried and no stems.
This is in a 4x4 tent.

For $200 your only option is really hps, look for an air cooled 600 maybe? You will see all kinds of bs claims that cheap led lights will work in a 4x4. If you buy one, you will be disappointed I’m sure.
If you can setup a proper exhaust for the HPS, it would be a cheap way to go and have good strong lighting. I run a 600 watt HPS in my flowering tent and 600 watt MH in my veg tent. Both have 6" 425 CFM fans and cooltube type air cooled hoods, one tent exhausts to my attic and another out a nearby window using a AC exhaust kit to not look ghetto. With that setup, both tents stay in mid to upper 70’s. Here’s my veg tent to give you an idea:
And tour power bill is what per month?
I’ve worked it out and using my city’s power rates, each tent is costing me about $52 a month to run including the fans.
Would be just a touch more than your 2 260XL’s @MrPeat those are 520 watts together yes? 600 ain’t much more than 520, watts is watts.
My 2 HLG only adds less than $40 a month.
Two is 570 watts.
40 - 50 - 60, does it really matter? If I was not growing, I’d be spending $400 a month or more on buying pot so I’m still saving a bunch of money.
It does matter as not everyone that grows may not have that extra cash to spend monthly.
Well to some it matters, to some it does not.
@MrPeat, and your 570 watts is even closer to the 600 so the difference is more about city rates in what we pay, running 30 more watts is meaningless, probably not even $1 a month. And if money/budget is such a factor, spending $700 on LED lights vs spending $200 on a HPS setup does not seem to make sense to me anyway when it’s going to cost the same a month to run them.
Is the king’s plus 3000w a good light for my 4x4
Willing to spend no more than 400 for lights
I would not recommend that light. You might consider a three-by-three space much cheaper to light. Just my thoughts. Good luck.
No, it’s not. It’s an old tech blurple LED, don’t waste your money.
The HLG 260 XL rspec Will veg and efficiently flower a 2x4 space They was on sale. For about 320 bucks .
Yeah, you’d be better off with 1 HLG 260XL to start and pick up another when you can and you would have great lights.
Sounds good thanks guys
@Kingbk0807, Don’t let the exhaust setup scare you off HPS, even with LED, you still need to exhaust the heat out of the tent to maintain proper temps. I see alot of guys run off and buy LED lights with no plan on keeping the tent cool.
