Been doing some experimenting today with some good results. Will post some more today when I have a bit more time along with pictures. Very interesting. ![]()
Okay fellow followers, I got a thing, so I did a thing. I just wanted to post an update/tutorial on the hash press from today. First and foremost, yes, the heat component on the pressed hash makes a significant visual difference. It truly is the difference between looking like Blonde Lebanese as opposed to Black Lebanese hash. I went 20 minutes at 180 degrees, and then let it cool. Visually, it looks like two completely different hashes. But it’s the exact same thing except for the heat and cool. I could see to the uninitiated that it would be very easy to say, “Oh yeah. the Blond hash is $40 bucks a gram but if you want the special Black hash it’s $60 a gram. Now I’m thinking that I fell for this when I was younger…lol…live and learn, right?
So here we go on what happened today:
Got a little over 3 grams of kief in order to make the hash brick. Put about 2 grams in and then had to hand compress it a little to get the 3rd gram in to fit. Using parchment paper on the top and bottom of the press. Light olive oil coating on the inside of the press per my previous post. Here’s some pictures:
Once I got all 3+ grams in there, I went ahead and added the top parchment paper and just lightly hand compressed it:
Then I added the 4-inch C-Clamp and started tightening down:
Got it compressed pretty well, not full strength, let it sit and then got another 1/8-1/4 turn out of the C-Clamp:
After I had it pretty snugged down, I put it in the oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes:
After 20 minutes, I pulled it out and got another 1/4to 1/2 turn out of the clamp:
Let it cool completely and then took it out of the clamp:
LOOK at how much darker it came out as opposed to no heat:
Here is a direct comparison of not heated to heated. Everything else is identical:
And then you can tell with the heat, you can compress it a little further to make it seem thinner. But the weight is the same. It seems with the heat you can compress it that last little bit:
So, fellow Growmies, that’s everything on the Hash Day lesson for today. Have NOT done a smoke report yet, getting ready for that either later today or tomorrow for sure.
I promise to keep everyone updated as I continue to go forward with this. Thank you all for reading and being interested in this subject. I appreciate you all.
@Darran ,good morning.Last night I was going to tell you that heat would turn your hash black .My reading skills were fine but my typing skills well not so much
.
I don’t use the oven in my process.I use a heat gun and a 180 degree temp stick. The squares are hard as bricks.,but process is near identical to your mad hash skills.Next is the dry ice method with all my sugar leaf trim.Thx for your tutorial it really is well worth doing.
And the buzz for me was very strong and long lasting.Different from using the flower,IMO.Thx again.
I’ve been making mine pretty much the same way, but without applying heat. It’ll definitely rip ya a new one, whether you smoke it or vape it.
Looks like we are using the same press! Definitely fun to do. I have a buddy who is a machinist, and I’m thinking about having him etch a design on the top and bottom aluminum press pieces. That way it leaves an imprint in the bricks. I did it with a dime and the impression transferred pretty well. I did not try that with the heated one, only a non-heated bar. Not sure of the design, but something fun.
Here’s today’s update. I had about 1.03 pounds of trimmings from my giant ILGM Gold Leaf plant. I went ahead and screened it all today. I’m still amazed at how well this is working out. From the leftovers that I was usually just getting rid of, I ended up getting 28.56 grams of kief to press more hash with. A little over an ounce. I’ll be doing all of the pressing tomorrow in the mold and will be using the heat method to make it dark in color to be different from the other hash I pressed. Plus, I put all of the screened plant matter in the freezer and will try doing a second screening based on a archived post here on the forums from 2018. What a great, fun experiment to participate in. Hope you enjoy.

Scraping it all together:

Soon, I’ll actually get to try it…lol.
Have a great grow day ahead everyone.
Very nice tutorial, so where do you get the press from?
It was an Amazon item. I believe it was about $20
Sifting the trim is a bit tedious and time-consuming, so it helps if you get stoned beforehand. Assuming that you remember what you were going to do before you got high.
I gave my current trim pile a second pass today and got several more grams as a reward. Pressed a couple more squares. Vaped some in the Lobo.
Have a massager?
Set it to high and vibrate the bin while tilting it side to side. Mix with your hand from time to time.

That black Afghan hash with a special print on it will prolly go for a additional $40 ![]()
Thanks for this thread. I didn’t know how much useful product I’ve thrown away over the years until following along. Things going to change ![]()
I do have one; I’ll try it. Thanks for the tip.
Can you show the screen you use. And where did you get it? Thanks very useful info.
It’s a trim tray. Available on Amazon.
So you just take the trim and you just rub it back and forth on the screen until what? Certain amount of time or till it’s all ground up and gone or what,?
Hey @Mucluc , here’s a picture of my bowl trimmer and my sifting screen with a average amount that I screened at a time. Purchased on Amazon.
Here’s a picture of the screen (which comes out) on the base for catching the kief:
After screening a little bit and scraping it together:
This was after screening 1 pound of dried trimmings. Only 1 pass. Could probably freeze and do it again. I will be trying that in the next couple of days to see how much more I can get out of it:
Hope that helps.
I paid less than this for it than what it’s currently showing at $40 as it was a flash sale. I want to say it was $25-$30. Definitely worth it and you can buy just the replacement screen for like $18 bucks. Pretty sturdy.
I have been so surprised and shocked… I never knew about this and am excited to share it with anyone who wants to know. I wish I had known before.
