Hey guys, I’m wondering about my humidity levels in jars. I dry trimmed last night at put into jars. There is no smell of hay or plant. It smells like good weed. But I put hygrometers in jars and this morning they only read 44-46%. Last night they were at about 42. Does it take a while for humidity to climb in jars? I feel like I trimmed early since the stems didn’t snap yet but buds felt dry to the touch. When you break them up they def are not dry. I’ve dried them in 52-54% humidity 64deg F for 10 days.

the moisture you may be feeling is possibly resin. There is some moisture locked into the stem and the bud. Remember that a bud is kinda like a tampon, it will absorb moisture. The bud will release some of this moisture to atmosphere until it reaches the RH not unlike air dried wood. So if you want weed more damp than the outside RH it must not be allowed to evaporate. If you live in the tropics and you have 80 percent RH all the time you must dehydrate your herb so it doesnt rot. Does this make sense?

You can add a fresh cannabis leaf or two to the jars to slowly increase humidity.
If in mason jars I’ve used a wet paper towel folded up to fit inside the lid to help rehydrate if need be. Works great!

So did I over dry? I just got home and humidity went up to 46-47%

If you’re at 47% humidity I’d say just slightly. Nothing serious. I don’t use a hygrometer. It’s a feel thing for me. When I seal the jar I expect for the buds to be damp again when i burp the jar. I leave the jar open on it’s side so the buds get more breathing space. Once the buds feel dry to the touch I seal it back up and gently roll the buds around. Repeat as needed. At first three times a day and you’ll slowly notice you don’t need to leave the jars open as long to be dry to the touch. After a couple weeks the buds should be perfect to just burp and reseal until the initial cure is complete.
I wet trim my buds and hang them for about five days. I like to finish the dry inside the jar as curing begins.

I will just throw this out there. I recently bought 10 or 12 mini hygrometers. Lined them up in a cupboard.
2 of them were 10% lower than the mean of others. Threw them out. The others were 1-2% within each other. If you have other hygrometers, change them out and see if you get the same results.
