@MeEasy and anyone else on here, so the 3 other autos i thought would be ready aren’t quite there yet. Maybe another week until harvest, think theres a chance to get them fuller or is it too late once the trichome start turning amber? Its probably only 10 percent amber if i account all the flowers.
Or maybe schwazzing may help… not sure if autos are good for this. Have you done this ?
I’m not sure on either question I’ve never tried the first and have never heard of the second
Yeah apparently it just getting rid of most of the fan leaves so the light gets to more of the buds
Likely that is all you’re gonna get at this point.
@MattyBear has a journal that shows nicely how to defoliate in flower. You don’t want to remove anything except large fans and any intermediate leaves that are blocking light to understory. This helps to both improve lower tier growth but increases airflow for mold prevention.
Here’s the thing: you are more than likely suffering from insufficient light. Which means plant is not able to perform photosynthesis as well. Removing leaves simply reduces it further. So keep in mind that his journal is under new, high efficacy lights with enough overhead to reach his DLI (Daily Light Integral) with a more sparse canopy. If you don’t meet it you simply can’t flower out dense nugs.
Thanks for Sharing this. I agree. Like i was telling @MeEasy i have a tall strain that i planted when my autos where halfway done. So when those took off in veg i had to get buckets to bring them up to height with the tall plants. But by then it was too late. I did in fact had the autos much further than 24 inches from the light because i thought autos didnt depend on light that much. I know it was a huge rookie mistake and this is what likely caused this issue lol. It may be too late for these plants but the photos look much more dense so far which is good because they were always close enough to the light. I just want to do my best going forward on these. As far as defoliating, i know you said its best to only cut the big fan leaves. Are you saying its best now? And as far as schwazzing, if i choose this method, do you think this is something that should be a couple weeks before harvest or soon? I really appreciate all the help!
Hey, you learned something and you will get a harvest out of the deal too. You ask the right questions and I’ll bet you will rock the next grow haha.
Oh yeah thats the truth. At least with the airy buds theres less chance of getting mold lol. But with all this experience now and help from you guys i feel these chronic widows and all my other grows are going to be thick dense buds! I”ll definitely be gloating once these tall ones fully flower and come harvest time where i can compare my first strain grow vs my second strain grow haha
The key is to try to pick plants with the same grow height and then train them to grow level so you get good light across all of them. It took me a few grows to get it to go the way I wanted it to. I still have to use boxes to put under my plants to help. Here’s my current grow look at the ones in the back a couple are on boxes
They look nice. I thought before of chopping the top after it stretches before flower but at the time thought it would be a bad idea. But your setup looks super clean nice
Thanks, @RandyMarsh Google “cannabis sog” “cannabis scrog” and check it out. I do small manifolds on mine because they grow more uniformly. This time I think I put to many in there and I have a couple colas that didn’t form well and are pretty small, I think because they didn’t get enough light to them because they were crowded. We are all still learning right, I’ll have to try fewer plants and see how the harvest weight compares with this one. This is my first grow in a 4x4 tent from a 2x6 closet. Good luck sir and continue to @ me and if I can help I will ![]()

I didn’t see what lights you have. But I have gotten solid buds from my vipars. If you want to grow an auto that seems to always give solid buds with about any light. Try an AK-47 These are always my best buds of any plants I do. I just finished doing one last grow. My friend is loving the smoke from it. It is not a big plant. But not small either. Some where in the middle ![]()
Will do. Learned so much on my first grow lol. And will continue to do so many helpful methods. But i think its safe to say in my situation with my first harvest, lack of light on my smaller strain was my issue. It was too late when i put them on buckets. But im saying this because as im defoliating my tall strains as they are probably only halfway through flower, the buds are already super dense and not a stem or any hole through in site. And they are huge buds! They just started to grow red hairs so id imagine theyre only going to get bigger but wow… i can wait to harvest these already lol. But yeah, light was the issue and i had a mis conception of autos not needing as much light. Because the plants that always been close are so dense and huge.
Thanks man. My other strain is mid way in the flower process and those buds are already dense monsters. So in my situation definitely light was the issue. Not lack of defoliation or anything. Although im doing that too. Still learning but man its fun
Be careful not to cut to much at once it could stress em out, just do a little here and there. If you have something you are questioning yourself whether or not to cut it off just leave it there you can always cut more later but once it’s gone it’s gone. Waiting on some bud porn
here’s mine from this morning just started showing some sugar
sorry about the lighting my tablet doesn’t have a flash
Yeah im just doing a little here an there every few days. But even doing a little my hands and arms are so sticky lol. Feels like i put my arm i. Glue lol. Your ladies are looking beautiful… the sugar on those leaves are shining. What strain is this again?
This one is probably king of the north because that’s what the ones at the door are but there’s a good mix in there
