I have quite a few pots of different sizes. I am going to start with a 3 to 4" clay pot for the seedling. I already bought a 5 gallon pot for the final transplant. How many times between these stages should I transplant into a little bit bigger pot?
I have read transplanting marijuana plants stresses the plant. I have grown many house plants over the years and am pretty good at transplanting without disturbing the root ball. Thanks.
I transplant twice. Once from a red solo cup to an 8" pot, and then to a 10 fabric pot. If you can transplant without disturbing the roots very much, then your plants will probably truck right through transplants. Visible growth does pause sometimes for a few days while the plant lays down new roots and grows into its new space.
I do 2 transplants as well, solo cup to 3 gallon to 7 gallon.
When you say 10 fabric pot you are referring to inches, not gallons, correct?
This is very helpful. I definitely have some 8" pots. Do you think going from an 8" to a 5 gallon is too much? I just measured my 5 gallon and it is 12.5" in diameter.
Do you see any issues with a clay pot, such as the clay pot holding too much moisture? I also have some small plastic pots if they would be better.
I go from Solo directly to a 5 gal cloth pot. I avoid transplanting. The down side if there is one, the small plant will seem to stop growing for a few days in the new home in the 5 gallon while it sends out roots. I am fine with waiting as it wont risk damage to roots by multiple transplants.
Many do 2 like FixerPower and Hellraiser. They are more experienced grower I think, however, so they might transplant like pros so it won’t have any ill effects.

10 gallon fabric pot. Fabric pots offer really good drainage. Cannabis likes wet / dry cycles.
Wow, 10 gallon is huge. I think the description said the GSC autoflower would only grow to 2’ tall. Do you think a 5 gallon pot is big enough?
Depends on how long you veg it. I wouldn’t veg a plant more than 6 or 8 weeks if its final home is going to be a 5-gallon pot.
Are you growing an autoflowering strain? If so, then 5-gal is probably big enough.
I have been going straight from the solo cup to 5gal. I do have one auto that refuses to flower and she just recently went into a 10gal (fabric pots)

5 gallon fabric pot will work good for your autos. I take a nice healthy seedling From cup go straight to final home. When you do that You got to get a feel of watering, And not over water.

I read up some more on transplanting autoflowering plants. Most say it will delay growth for a while with an autoflowering. I also see that starting the plant in a small pot will allow for a good strong root system. Putting into the final large pot right away doesn’t build a strong root system? I think I am going to plant my sprouted seed in a small pot and then go to the 5 gallon. I am going to skip the medium sized pot. This is my first grow so this whole process will be a lot of trial and error.

It’s a good practice to repot autos from starter cup to final home one time. They will do fine. Just be careful with transplant.
Multiple transplants makes for better/stronger root systems

With autos short veg cycle do you recommend Multiple repots. Thanks.
Using myco as a soil amendment can really help too.

I would, but I never see any stress with transplanting, only happier plants. And gives me more chances to add myco.

That’s my main concern. The Girl Scout Cookies Extreme autoflowering is ready to harvest in 7 to 9 weeks.
How do you know when it is time to repot? Do you wait until you see roots growing out of the drainage holes?
