How many here have heard of a plant from the early 70's called Red Bud?

I have a friend who’s husband grew this stuff sense the early 70’s. Sadly he passed a few years back. But one of the times she came visiting I ask her what it was and she said all they ever knew it as was Red Bud. They and their friends like it so much that occasionally he would let the males and females grow to maturity for the seeds. The people that I know who have smoked it ( a couple ) say it’s butt kicking. What I can tell you about it is that it is hardy as it can be. She had given me a few seeds once before and I but them in my shirt pocket and while I was tending to the soil they apparently fell out and landed in the untended dirt next to the garden. I had no intention of planting them that season as I was going with Big Bud. Yes, the same Big Bud that I lost to Bud Rot. I the early stages of the Big bud I noticed a little green plant coming up in the hard soil. Seeing that it was marijuana I started watering and fertilizing it. Well bud rot didn’t faze this thing. Of course it was probably ten feet away from the other plants. Sandy brought me some more seeds when I was having problems with seeds spouting and the germination stage. Other than a few seeds I had left from ILGM these Red Bud seeds are what I have at the seedling stage right now. These are regular seeds so I will need to keep a close eye out for the males. We shall see how it goes.

I’ve had Red Bud good weed.
Back in the seventies and eightys. Can’t tell you much more about it. That’s a good weed.

I remember red bud being the second flower type bud we saw in NW ohio about 83. The first was the christmas tree pine smelling buds sold by the gram. Red bud had red hairs all over the buds and was very mild. Of course being buds it was way more potent than " regular " seeded" pot.

As I started to smoke more phenos in 2018 when I replaced opiods for cannabis for pain I have noticed that every once in a while a flavor profile of a bud will remind me of a low power bag of seeds and stems from the 80’s. On the draw or exhale a flavor will take me back. Anyone remember these flavors?
For a few months my guy had apple weed. Smoke smelled like apples.
Mint weed. Had a minty inhale.
Puke weed. No shit on exhale it tasted like a deep burp with an acidy throat burn.
First flower weed was pine. Very strong pine scent and flavor.
Seems that the older pot was very focused for flavor prolly due to genetics that had not been blended into a big pot of mashed potatoes where so many phenos now taste the same.

Red Bud was all over Ohio in the early 80s. Not sure if it was premo buds from various strains or was a specific strain. You paid a little more for it and tie-stick(sp?)

There was something special. In the late 70s I got tie stick straight off the boat for 40 an ounce. Monterey those were the days.

Slang name, some stoners were calling basically anything that had red hairs Red Bud, I’m pretty sure Panama Red is actually what Red Bud is. I’ve grown this strain several times over the last year and crossed a male with a female Kona Gold and the terpene profile is insane with a killer buzz :love_you_gesture:

Tagging a few old stoners for their input @kaptain3d @Oldguy @Budbrother

Yup you, I and RiskGuy agree. I didn’t get charged any differently on re ups from supplier but I charged customers more for it. Kinda like Kentucky blue. Made up some BS and it flew out the door. Pretty sure it was just properly grown kind bud for those days.

I remember it Brother.
The nugs were insanely red with the long red hairs all curled in.
Had some back in my navy days when I was visiting San Juan round about 1980. Was a different time back then and my first real experience with some killer sinsei. :yum:

Penalties were pretty severe back then and trying to hide the smell from the pooches when ya got back home was all pretty stressful. :joy:

Hopin I get some of that red expression in mine.

We had a regular supply of Red Bud here in Southern Maryland all through the 80’s & 90’s and it was a beautiful bud maker. Light green foliage but the buds had stunning red hairs in them as opposed to the nowadays typical orange pistols. Always a Reg, I used to bitch about plucking seeds but now I’d kill for a few legitimate old school ones lol. Lost to the memory books now. I wonder how many other bomb ass strains have been lost or crossed out of existence?? Sad.

Daily trips to the beach. The outdoor theatre was pretty cool too.
Was a great time had by all.:+1:

Right on Barry, our Naval force hauled Marines from place to place on sea deployments. I was in field artillery and spent several weeks on a remote part of Vieques island firing rounds down range, cleaned our gear in PR and spent several days of R&R in the Virgin Islands. We needed to show our command a motel key for overnight liberty and found a sketchy motel (actual Brothel) to give us a key for $15 bucks :laughing:z no way we could afford a room where the tourist were staying. Excellent time and memories :love_you_gesture:
