Good morning. So, how long will harvested Cannabis keep, before it goes bad? I have 5 quart jars full of Herb, that I keep in my dark /cool food pantry. I open the lids on the jars every week or so for a little while, to get a little air flow.. Thank you.
After drying and curing (8-week), I vacuum seal mine in 1oz increments, label them, and put them in a drink drawer in a garage fridge. I’ve opened stuff up from 12-16 months ago that are still perfect. Hope that helps.
Stored properly along time i generally try to stay in a rang where what i grew is what ill smoke before next harvest i usually have a couple of ounces left when i harvest so i never really keep it hanging around except for a couple of small jars ill save and do a long cure on but those are stored in a dark cabinet in a temperature controlled environment I have some strawberry cough from about a year ago thats still 100% fine i expect it will still be fine a year from now if i still have it
I’ve always been under the impression that once it’s cured in jars for 4-6 weeks, you should not open the jars until you are ready to smoke it, even if it’s a year later. You transition from “curing” to “storing” by not opening the jar. The weekly burpings during long-term storage might be bad for the buds. I find buds stored in glass jars 12+ months are even better than when freshly cured.
I’m just finishing up what I grew in 2022 harvest, stuff still works.
cured it in grow bags then stored in 1/2 gal mason jars.
I bought a $25 vacuum sealer off amazon. Once they hit stable RH they were shut tight.
I find myself re-sealing jars my family opens to “test”.
Properly dried and stored herbs can last quite a long time without losing too much flavour. Keeping your jars in a cool, dark place like you’re doing will help maintain quality. Opening them occasionally to let air exchange is fine as long as you don’t introduce moisture. Many folks also use small humidity packs or a vacuum sealer for long‑term storage. If everything still smells good and isn’t overly dry or mouldy, it should be fine for months or even a year or more.
