After cutting and drying. I put my buds in mason jars with Boveda 62% humidity packs. I then put them in the refrigerator and burp them everyday. My question is do you leave them in the fridge until the product is depleted or is there a time frame where you remove them and use some other method of storage. Thanks………
Actually; room temperature during cure is better as you are trying to break down the plant material during cure. Bacterial action is reduced in the refrigerator. I would cure and age in a room temp environment then refrigerate or freeze. The caveat is to not use a frost free freezer as the repeated defrost cycle degrades the THC in cannabis into CBN.
Long term storage in the refrigerator or freezer is the best way to maintain freshness.
FYI: if storing for long term, use a vacuum sealer to get a seal on the lid, or use saran wrap under the lid for an hermetic seal.
@Myfriendis410. Been 5 days in dry I have 2 Northern lights and 1 gold leaf. NL’s smaller stems snapped instead of bending, so should I go ahead and put them to cure. Gold leaf stems are still pliable so I’ll wait on that one. Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks…
.
Once the stems snap you can do any final trim needed and start curing.
For wet trimmed buds I find 50%-60% rh at 70f takes around 4-5 days for dense buds to be ready for jarring and curing. For dry trimmed it’s usually 7+ days with the same environment.
I’m out of likes. Great work!
Thanks, I jarred them with brevada 62% humidity packs and put them in a closet. Now I have to figure out how to get all the resin off my scissors and hands…lol…
Nice harvest there. Looks like about a half pound of top shelf. If you have more to come you could cherry pick it and place that jar in long term storage. I use the mason jar lid sealer attachment and the freezer. I use to save my best from each harvest and break it out on special occasions. Usually around the holidays when family and friends from out of town visited. It does get better with some aging. Those jars make awesome gifts too. Just saying
@Myfriendis410, seemingly dumb question is the one you don’t ask. So here goes, how long should I cure in mason jars at room temp before I put in storage in fridge…Thanks…
Great question! It is entirely dependent on the strain, grow, flush interval, time of harvest, length of time drying, ambient conditions etc. so it’s hard to put a good number on. I’ve had a couple of strains that really needed a month (a Gold Leaf IIRC) and I’ve had strains that you could hit on right away (my current harvest is like that). Cure could be a week before I put in the freezer. Potency does go up over time as well as things cure. You will really just have to burp jars, monitor RH, smell the cannabis and of course the hardest part: try samples! haha.
Put a little piece of Saran Wrap over the jar for an actual seal as the seal rings need a pressure differential to work properly. I use my bag sealer and make up a big bag; put the jar in and suck out the air with the lid on loosely. Works great.
Room temperature: around 68F is perfect. Most like 62% Boveda packs in the jars too: I use them.
@Myfriendis410 I accidentally bought 55% packs will these work in quart jars?
They might be a little on the dry side. A friend of mine uses 58% but I like the 62%.
Can I make it work for three days till I can get different ones
Yes, might add a piece of apple or orange rind.
@Carol4486 get your 62% packs yet ?
Yes I got them my jars are 67&71 so far been burping away. I put them in when they come lower right? Or right away?
@smellthat @Myfriendis410 so when do I put the boveda pack in? Now or after the jars are lower rh
I put them in when the flower goes in the jars. Burp them daily or twice daily for 15 minutes for the first two weeks to vent off toxic gasses that accumulate. From there you just have to monitor until you are happy.
