So I found out one of my family members has Parkinson disease. I was wondering how to calculate how much Mgs for edibles. I know 1 gram is equal too 1000mgs and 10% of it is 100 Mgs. I have made edibles alot before but never really calculated Mgs before. My question is do you calculate the Mgs from a quarter of a piece of edibles to get 100mgs? This will be my family members first time taking edibles also. I will be using gg4 trim since strain helps with anxiety, pain and other medicinal benefits that I am missing lol
I am also going to use just trim and sugar leaves . How would I be able to find out the thc percent in just trim and sugar leaves? Also will I have to scale the trim to be able to calculate Mgs? I want to give my family member the perfect Mgs nothing to high or to low somewhere in the middle since it is there first time.
I will refer you to the best person for edibles and that’s @blackthumbbetty
She can school you up on some stuff and refer you to some threads she has made.
First you need to know the % of the in your bud or guess a bit above.
1000 / %thc = mg
Mg * amount of flower added Per cup of oil
(Ex. 100 mg x 3.5 grams = 350 mg)
Then if you use less then a cup of oil you have to Fraction that value
Divide by number of edibles you make
So you’d have (mg of butter / amount of edibles)
1000 / 10= 100 mg
100 mg x 7 grams to 1 cup of butter = 700mg per cup
1/2 cup of butter for cupcakes (according to this box of betty Crocker)
350 mg per batch of 12 = 29.16 mg per cupcake
Take the total number of mg in your whole recipe and choose your dose. Divide your recipe by that number of doses.
To know how much is in a quarter of a serving, you first have to figure out each serving amt.
Link below is a dosage calculator
There is a pic below to show what you should find.
You will have to guess at THC percentage. I usually estimate 3 to 5 % below listed.
So if the plant was supposed to produce 20% THC on the buds I will input 17.
Trim is anyone’s guess. Depends on how the mix of sugar to fan leaves is.
Honestly, since they refer to something as “an infused extract”, I question them, but they’re using the same methodology that everyone has already recommended.
Thank you all. So each gram is 100mgs is what I’m understanding? From what I have read about the thc percent on Gorilla Glue is about 26% thc and can go up to 30%. The sugar leaves and other trim has alot of trichomes my question is if the flowers it self is about 26% will the sugar leaves and fan leaves with triches be the same percent thc as flowers? Will I still scale the trim like I would do to the flowers? Also will 700mgs be a good amount for a first timer? @blackthumbbetty @PharmerBob @Spiney_norman I tried going on that site and it doesn’t work.
No. Each gram contains 1000mg. So, if a strain is 15% THC, that’s approximately 150mg of THC per gram of bud.
For sugar trim, gotta use about 4x the amount of bud to get the same result. So, 4 grams of Sugar Trim = 1 gram Bud
So, BTB would it be more precise to start with evaporated alcohol extraction? Then weigh for approximate dosage and add to butter or coconut oil. I’m wondering if this would be more consistent than doing a butter extraction…
That’s exactly what I do now, if I need budder.
Seems like the best way besides sending off samples for analysis: should get em close then fine tune as needed. If we didn’t enjoy kief so much we’d probably adopt this method but we have a system down that works for us.
Okay I understand now thank you! @Myfriendis410 if you do alcohol extraction keep me updated on it. I would love to know how to do that sometime.
@blackthumbbetty is the Queen of all things edibles here haha.
Aw, thanks @myfriendis410!
@greenthumb101, the link shared will take you to some tried/true recipes and dosing guidelines.
Thank you again! @blackthumbbetty I am set to watch
