How do I use mosquito dunks for fungus gnats?

Hey grow fam, so I’ve been dealing with these pesky fungus gnats for damn near a year. I’ve been knowing the solution was to get some mosquito bits but just was never able to do it. Well today I finally got some mosquito dunks and I know the instructions are to let some dissolve in water overnight but I am wondering more about this. So if I have one gallon of water how much of a dunk should I put in it? Maybe a quarter or a half? Do these affect my pH and ppm? Should I use the dunk when watering only or is it okay to mix with the nutrients? I’m just trying to get all the info I can on this so I do it the right way and don’t mess anything up. Thanks people

Usually I’d recommend crushing and amending the medium with them. You can top the pots with crushed rings. And also soak in enough water to pour in to the pot(s) without rub off.

It’s a bacteria so mixing with pH adjusters is generally not recommended but can be done. I’d use them all.

There are several * Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis products on the market. The actual bits are a bit more manageable.

@Low okay so my pH from my tap is about 7.8. I have a tub of some soil from my recent chop in the soil is infested with the fungus gnats. So I was going to get these things gone and use the soil for future grows. So should I just throw some of these crushed up into my 7.8 pH tap water? And I also have them pretty bad in my veg closet so I wanted to make a gallon of water with the mosquito dunks so I can take care of all of these boogers. So how should I do this should I just water with my 7.8 tap water? water with my 7.8 tap water?

Oh yeah, I wouldn’t bother pH adjusting for soil not used right now. Goal is to kill the bugs. You can amend or buffer when it comes to use. You could pH water prior to adding the crushed bits but I don’t think it’s necessary

For the veg plants, you can ph water ahead of time or get some distilled water.

pH down would only negatively effect the outcome if you poured it in while the bits are floating in there. Direct contact/not diluted.:call_me_hand:t3:

@Low I wonder how much PPM the dunks add to a gallon

It’s mostly the bacteria with corn cob or clay for a binder/carrier. I’d guess 10-50ppm depending on how much you use

@Low oh cool that’s not bad and you say it doesn’t affect the pH much?

Could cause a slight drop .1-.2 initially but won’t hold

@Low sounds good that’s what I needed to know thank you

Yeah, crush the dunks , scratch in and follow up watering.

Oh, well this is what I just did I took one dunk put it in a ziplock bag and beat it with a hammer. Then I dumped a little more then half of what was in the ziplock into a gallon of water and shook it a little and have it sitting on the countertop. So this is what I need to know, whenever I water my plants that are vegging or flowering I’m supposed to do like so and let all of the bits dissolve into a gallon of water and then pH my water to wear I want it to be?

one good treatment should get the job done . I usually just scratch in the bits Follow up with PH water or feeding.

When doing the soak method get your water pH first

@Low damn I already started soaking it LOL and the pH is out my tap at about 7.8. I thought I was supposed to pH it down afterwards, so I’m curious what happens if I do pH it down afterwards?

Well, it can potentially shock or kill some of the bacteria. NBD what’s done is done

I’d pH after the long soak
